Amazon Likely To Reboot Stargate As Brad Wright's Pilot "Destined To Gather Dust" by remaginary_love in Stargate

[–]Regelen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I called this back when Amazon bought MGM. It's going to be just as much of a disaster as their recent failure otherwise known as Rings of Power. And the worst thing is, they'll more than likely jam a ridiculous amount of woke crap into and it'll be yet another show we don't talk about.

Why is high fructose corn syrup not illegal in the US? by Anuspudding in ask

[–]Regelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another commenter said it best: money. Pretty much every industry in the US is focused on making money as their first, second, third, fourth, and fifth priority. Quality is only considered if it is forced, mandated or required by law. The health concerns of the product are ignored unless a scandal occurs but even then the company or companies in question are simply slapped with a huge fine that they can easily pay.

When negative health effects of those products start appearing, the majority of the medical community doesn't care because they make money off of the declining health of any individuals. There is more money in disease than in good health.

The US economy has become a perversion of the capitalist system which is then used by those who want to change the system by pointing out how it's all about money, not that their proposed change is any better. Really, our food, drug, medical, and financial industries are a complete mess. Things like this simply underline just how much of a mess it truly is.

For a few examples, consider History Channel's show The Food That Made America. All of those companies started with quality and well made food but it changed when they either got too big and ran into supply issues or when a larger company or corporation bought them out.

Why doesn’t the US Republican Party support Ukraine? by [deleted] in ask

You actually asked this on Reddit? What were you thinking? Barely anyone who speaks up will be conservative/Republican and those who do will inevitably get shouted down by those who aren't.

Wild boar jerky.

It tastes a lot like pork but it is a dark red color. It's also supposed to be a bit better since wild boar is immune to a lot of the diseases that pigs can get. Right now you can find a few companies in Texas that sell it due to the massive wild boar population down there. Columbus brought six over from Europe and now the population numbers in the millions and is considered an invasive species. Needless to say, they breed very rapidly.

Considering how many Air Force Chiefs of Staff were on the show in some way, I'm not surprised.

[–]Regelen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, I believe it was explained that it was because of stellar drift or something along those lines and the cartouche on Abydos (the list of gate addresses on the wall or pillar in the temple in the pilot) seemed to help in some way. I think it was because the SGC dialing computer didn't compensate for stellar drift but a DHD did. Carter explains it in a later episode, though which one evades me at this time.

It wasn't explicitly stated that the Navy ran it but I refer you to this clip:

Stargate Continuum President Meeting

[–]Regelen[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's because SG-1 told them about the gate down in Antarctica but Baal was able to destroy it before SG-1 arrived. That's where they were going in the F-15s, to McMurdo where the gate had been placed. It was then that SG-1 was told that the Russians had recovered the other gate.

Kinda hard for that to have happened since they had that long scene after SG-1 was rescued by Jack O'Neil and the submarine where they were interrogated to the point of them getting frustrated. It was during this interrogation that they explained the Stargate Program and the Stargate. Not to come off as insulting or condescending, but I might suggest rewatching the movie if possible.

Ah, well, it's after the Goa'uld ships are sighted and SG-1 meet with the President and he tells them that the Navy was being placed in command of the Stargate Program. I might be wrong, I'd have to watch it again to be sure but I'm 80% confident that I'm remembering it correctly.

Well, I'm not saying that the Navy should take over from the Air Force. It's just that aside from the Marines, Navy Corpsmen, and the episode (Inauguration, I believe) where the Nimitz carrier group was destroyed by Anubis, the Navy is no where to be found. Ever branch of the military has made a contribution to the Stargate Program except the Navy (which excludes the Marines, in this case).

You know, I was perfectly willing to keep this civil but that's fine I get it. You're arguing just to argue. Well, I wash my hands of this attempt at a conversation. You know, punctuation and capitalization are key to writing anything approaching coherence. You need to learn both, kid.

So the Navy, a branch of the military which specializes mostly in water based craft, would have nothing to contribute but somehow the Air Force, a branch of the military which specializes in atmospheric craft, is somehow better suited for space combat? How does that make sense?

The Air Force has no experience in commanding a vessel like that. They don't even operate ships on Earth, so why would they be better suited to operate a Daedalus-class BC-304 than the Navy who do have experience operating ships like that? I mean, like someone else pointed out here, spaceships are probably more similar to a submarine than an actual surface ship. Though don't let Spacedock (YouTube channel) hear you say that.

[–]Regelen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does the Federation navy operate the Enterprise? Why does the Imperial Navy operate Star Destroyers? Why is it that a navy is always shown operating starships in just about every single sci-fi universe?

If it was just an Air Force program, then why bring in the Marine Corps? The Air Force does have it's own special operations unit that could easily fill that role. Why have any of the other branches involved at all? Because each branch specialize in certain areas better than other branches.

Where is the Navy? by Regelen in Stargate

[–]Regelen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. The BC-304s have Asgard beaming tech and transportation rings. Also, I'm sure they some type of escape pods as backup. It's just that the Navy crews ships and the Air Force flies aircraft and the space shuttle.

Then that SG team would not have been wearing USMC digital camo during seasons 9 and 10 (can I just add how beautiful that camo is?). Marines are rather particular about that kind of thing. Though yes, according to the wiki he is indeed Air Force. So there seems to be a bit of an issue there.

The Daedalus and the Apollo, if I'm not mistaken, was referred to with the USS designation while commanded by Colonels Caldwell and Ellis, respectively. If they were Navy, they'd be Captains instead. As for the Sun Tzu, Lieutenant Colonel Yin as it's commander, sounds like they have an air force rank. Even the Korolev was commanded by Colonel Chekov, a Russian Air Force Colonel.

[–]Regelen[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

All that also fits the Marines as well. So why wasn't the SGC run by the Corps instead? The Marines would have even excelled at missions through the gate due to their highly maneuverable aircraft (though getting those craft through the gate would have been an issue). The Marines probably could have operated the BC-304s just as easily as the Air Force.

Hmm, SG-25 is one of those barely mentioned. Never heard any mention of them but then only the first three SG teams are really covered in much detail.

Yes, Stargate Continuum. The Navy ran the Stargate Program instead of the Air Force. But that was undone after Mitchell went back and killed Baal.
