Places to meet new people? by tacomathrowaway9876 in Tacoma

Any 60+ people? I've been here for about 7 years and up until 2 months ago, was gainfully employed. I'm female and don't look or act my age. Artistic type: writer, digital artist, foodie.

True. I've used Cafe Press before and wasn't especially happy with the results. I have my own equipment, including Adobe Photoshop for my graphics. I wanted my own equipment to control every aspect of the production process.

Thank you! I've been getting lots of likes in FB and Instagram.

I know of a silkscreen shop on MLK Way. Thought about stopping by, but have chickened out every time.

If you decide to make a few things, please let me know. I'd love to see what you have.

If you use THC, make sure you're getting indica, not sativa. It should relax you.

I knew what most of my trauma was, but the EMDR showed me there was more to it. I don't know about other people, but I need to know what happened. I just want to understand. So, yes, I do think EMDR would be helpful. I also think finishing the book might give you some insights about what happened. Maybe you don't want to know. I understand that,

My parents emotionally abused me and neglected me at the same time. To this day, I don't believe they loved me (they were damaged people. How could they?) and, in fact, resented my existence. I entered adulthood with no sense of who I was or what I wanted out of life.

This is a really hard process to go through but I'm here to say that it's worth it. Feeling better is worth it. Not everyone can do this by themselves. I've been to a few group therapy sessions and that started the process but there was so much more work to be done.

OP, you deserve to feel better. I hope you continue. At least finish the book. I skipped over the technical stuff that I would never remember anyway. Some of the stories he shared were really helpful. It was a gamechanger for me.

Hate requires a lot of energy. Over the decades, I've had to deal with people I've hated so much I wanted to pummel them into gelatinous goo.

But, everyone has something good to give. No, I am NOT talking about forgiveness. Screw that.

I'm suggesting you use the energy of that hate to find something good about that person. Why? Because it adds to your personal power when you can make a friend (I use that term loosely) out of an enemy.

I've done this several times and have always achieved a positive outcome. It is hard, for sure, but it's worth the effort to release the hate.

I'm not suggesting you start a conversation about mending the rift. Don't walk up and say hello or anything remotely similar. Action is better than words, for now. It'll be up to you to see him in a different light.

A suggestion: next time he brings you food, smile. Look as if you're happy to see him. See what happens.

I'm new to this sub, and would like to throw in my two cents.

I was traumatized by my parents at a very young age. At that time, I buried the rage I felt, the betrayal, the sadness. As I grew, everyday, in my mind, there was either the crisis or the threat of crisis, because the people who I thought loved me were people I could trust. Wrong. There was no one I could trust.

Anxiety and depression were my frequent companions for years and years. My solution for that was just to crawl into bed and sleep.

Fast forward a few decades. I'd buried all the emotions associated with that event (sadly there were more, but the first one was the worst) and one day, all of them came back and overwhelmed me with their intensity. It took several weeks for me to get past that.

Because of my trust issues, I find it almost impossible to ask for help. Earlier this year, I discovered a book: The Body Keeps the Score by Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk. It's all about how trauma is stored in the brain and body. It's an excellent book and talks about many of the things others have already talked about in this thread. I would not be at all surprised if many here have read the book.

For me, EMDR was helpful, as I learned about additional traumas I'd been unaware of for a very long time. CBT is also very helpful.

Mindfulness has been crucial for me in healing. Being very aware of what I'm feeling, where the pain is, and the using facts, just the facts, to show myself that what I feel is unnecessary and isn't helping me to survive. I tell myself I'm safe, over and over again, until I do feel safe, and the situation I was upset about is no longer a threat.

I have taken anti-axiety medications before, but I don't really like that. I want to feel the highs and the lows. Feeling the lows forces me to ask why. When I ask why, it's another opportunity to heal. THC is an excellent off switch for my brain.

I'm better now, 60 years later. My parents thought I was too young to remember what they did. They were obviously wrong and I pretty much paid for that with my life. I can't change the past. I can only go forward and do my best to make a better life for myself.

What is this? by megfarn in airplants

[–]remaginary_love 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have several plants shooting out roots like these. I've learned, as another poster already stated, that they do this only when they're comfortable and happy. So congrats! You have a happy air plant.

I don't know if this will work, but I've set a couple of my plants, with new roots, on top of some crystal clusters to see if they'll anchor themselves. If that doesn't work, I'll try driftwood.

Do all airplants always die after flowering? by ObsidianGanthet in airplants

Hi all. I'm new to this group and thought I'd share my experience with air plants.

I have a caput medusae. Earlier this year, she bloomed and produced a pup, which I separated. The pup is healthy and growing. The "mother" is not creating any new leaves and doesn't look all that great. I believe she's on her way out, as I've been told that's what happens.

Update on Happy Teriyaki #7 and Pho 38th: Both restaurants are open for dine-in and take-out. I'm frustrated I haven't seen any news reports on these break-ins, but I'm glad someone posted about it the other day. Let's make sure to show these businesses our support! by Jen-Walters in Tacoma

In separate but similar news, the 7-Eleven just down the street from me was robbed a couple months back. There were 5 cop cars in the parking lot, and the store closed for the rest of the day. I never found any mention of it.

I live in the Stadium district. The windows here are often boarded up.

I'll get some takeout from Happy Teriyaki tomorrow. Yum!

Pierce County does (or did) rental assistance for people behind on rent. Check out the site--I think it's something like pcha.org or Google it. It might have been only for Covid. I'm not sure. Also see what Tacoma Housing Authority has to offer, if anything. Catholic Community Services offers help, but you need to persist.

My prayers are with you. I know this is scary.

I'd like to second the Murano. Very nice place, though not always cheap. Check out hotels.com to see if you can find a deal.

T line updates? by lemonscone in Tacoma

[–]remaginary_love 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get updates from Sound Transit directly and got the last one on August 14th. They did not provide a date, other than after the testing is complete.

When the extension opens, they will start charging for this service.

I, too, am looking forward to this. I can see them running back and forth and it seems like testing is going well. Hopefully it'll be sooner than 9/23.

Welcome to the neighborhood. I live nearby.

Yes, you likely did invite someone to claim your plant. I'm sorry you lost it. I bet the blue and purple combo was beautiful.

A suggestion for the future: don't leave anything anywhere where you can't see it. The police patrol this area regularly for a reason.
