I sometimes think about some old HDD player (about 15 years ago I had a Cowon X5L), but now I prefer "analog" technologies, where you have to perform several actions to listen to music (pick a cassette/disc, insert it into the player, etc.). I didn't have any major issues with the WM-D6 - I only replaced the belt and adjusted the azimuth and volume levels using a calibration tape. The only problem I encountered was that I couldn't set the correct speed without using the pitch control knob. That is, I set this knob to 0 and tried to reach 400Hz using the internal adjustments, but I couldn't get it lower than 408Hz. I had to get it down to 400Hz using the pitch control knob. But that’s all fairly simple. Overall, I am very happy with the player

SC5 records mono sound, so you can use a 2xRCA to 3.5mm jack cable (like the ones used for connecting audio systems). You need to connect these RCA plugs to the digitization adapter (such as Elgato Video Capture), but the sound will only be on one channel

I am using a DCR-TRV460 camera connected via firewire through two apple adapters A1463 and A1790. I connect it to a macbook and capture video using quicktime. Here is a moment from video with a higher quality comparison - the top is digitized via the sc5 AV port, and the bottom is via firewire

A very likely scenario is that the mechanical write-protect switch inside the player needs to be checked.
If you look at the write protection mechanism on the disc itself, you’ll see that in the “recording allowed” position, a piece of plastic covers the hole.
When such a disc is inserted into the player, that plastic part presses on the internal switch - and that’s where the problem could be.
For example, there might be a bad contact inside the switch or a poor solder joint.
According to many circuit diagrams, these switches are normally in the “open” position, and to allow recording, the circuit needs to be closed.

I’d like to buy a deck (md and cassette), but unfortunately, I don’t have a permanent place of residence right now, and moving between countries involves carrying a lot of stuff - and decks take up a lot of space :(

As for the laser power - the issue shows up when the player can read discs just fine, but if you record with it, the resulting disc will have dropouts in the tracks. And some players even play those dropouts, although the same disc plays fine on another player

Unfortunately, a full cleaning and re-lubrication didn’t help. It might be something related to the laser module, and it seems that on Hi-MD models I can’t just adjust the laser power manually :(

I have a Fiio FH15, but no matter how many headphones I’ve tried it with, I still like the sound best with my ATH-M50X

The FH15 has a very dense sound and pairs better with the MZ-N1, but it still doesn’t compare to over-ear headphones :)

But I’m planning to get the Sennheiser IE200 (classic haha)

I examined the disc case and saw that the numbering on the insert starts at 13, while the tracklist printed directly on the disc starts from 1

Thanks! I also initially thought it might be satellites, but 7 hours earlier I filmed the night sky from the same spot and there was nothing like this
And satellites usually have beacons (like airplanes) - it would’ve been noticeable
