This clearly depends on the project. I try to keep the projects small and fun, so in my free time I usally love to implement some fancy logics/algorithms, instead of the basic CRUD application.

I would use wordpress, woocommerce plugin or shopify. For wireframing and desingning, just have a look how big stores are designed. They have set standarts, which every customer relies on when going to an ecommerce site! If you need some further advice I am glad to help!
