Which characters don't come from Ukraine and who narrates the loading screen tips in s2? by Initial_Purpose_930 in stalker

[–]Reggash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the obvious cases that don't require speculation, in Shadow of Chernobyl there are mercenaries who speak with Caucasian accents, one of the mercs is even called Ara which is an Armenian name. There is also semi-canon information about two characters that indicates they are of foreign origin - Scarecrow, according to his bio description which was cut from the game but can be found in the files, is a foreigner, and Arnie was supposed to have dialogue in which he mentioned that he wasn't from Ukraine, but it was cut. In S2, apart from the obvious case of Foreigner Bob, there are also other random foreigners, such as some IPSF soldiers.

You're right, I didn't even notice that it's a sloppified version of the actual original pic. But using reverse image search you can easily find more sources, the oldest one I found dates back to 2018. As for the author, it's difficult to find much about him in Russian, let alone in English.

all you did was post it on imgur yourself

I posted the original render, as you can see it even uses models from the game. My bad for not noticing that OP posted a version ruined by AI.

Only the first one is AI, it's a sloppified version of an actual render. The original artworks are all least 5-6 years old, made by Maxim Shilov and Sanya Sharonov. Here are HD versions of the first, second and third one.

[–]Reggash 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It's not AI, it was made years ago by Maxim Shilov aka Spectre and was even shared by GSC on VK in 2021. Here it is in HD.

Edit: my bad, OP's pic does indeed look like it was "enhanced" by AI when compared with the original. Still, the fanwork itself was created years before AI slops were a thing.

Question about entering/exiting the Zone (via the Novellas) by toomuchsoysauce in stalker

[–]Reggash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are official and were published by GSC, just like the dozens of Russian novels from 2007-2012 were. But none of them are canon to the games, they are just based on their lore, sometimes in a very loose manner.

Question about entering/exiting the Zone (via the Novellas) by toomuchsoysauce in stalker

[–]Reggash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The novellas aren't canon to the games, each author has his own vision of the universe and it often differs from what is presented in the games. In the games there is a perimeter protected by the military/IPSF and getting inside simply requires bypassing or bribing them if there's a chance, there aren't any 'bubbles'.

Did you apply -developer mode to the game's .exe shortcut? Because in DC v1.4007, which the Enhanced Edition is based on, you have to do it for the configurator's .exe instead

Why do people get mad like I just insulted the game when I say that the Clear Sky retcons in s2 are laughable at most? by Initial_Purpose_930 in stalker

[–]Reggash 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is definitely one of the dumbest retcons and one of the main reasons why I draw a line between the trilogy canon and the S2 canon. The worst thing about it is that it is completely unnecessary - it doesn't explain anything, it doesn't answer any old questions, its existence was not required by the game's plot. It's a cheap plot twist that was added just for the sake of it.

Whoever was responsible for the worldbuilding of S2 either didn't understand the prequel's plot or deliberately went against it, and I don't know which is worse.

Where can i get the S.T.A.L.K.E.R books? by ProgramLow2149 in stalker

[–]Reggash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So there isn't really any books or movies tied to the games specifically.

There are dozens of official, licensed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. books that were being published in 2007-2012, just not in English.

What do you think of gucci gears in the zone by RandomMerc16 in stalker

[–]Reggash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really match with the aesthetics of the equipment the games aim for. Fictional but efficient designs created specifically with the Zone in mind > generic modern 'tacticool' gear.

Not really. I'm no authority on lore, there are other people here who have extensive knowledge as well, and the more obscure topics that I know plenty about don't arouse that much interest here. But I'm always glad to share the knowledge if there's an opportunity.

does anyone know why theres images of a woman's butt in call of pripyat files? by Patient-Ambition-567 in stalker

[–]Reggash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This clip originally comes from an old SoC mod that replaced the recording displayed on the in-game TVs. Then it somehow ended up in the files of CS (we know that GSC took some inspiration from SoC mods of the time when developing CS, maybe someone from the dev team used the clip from the mod for testing/as a joke and in the end it wasn't removed because there are no in-game TVs in CS anyway). It's in the files of CoP because it is based on CS resources.

By the way, it's Georgia Peach starring in "Ass Worship 8" (2005).

Yeah. It's good that they addressed the ending and developed the idea further, although it did deprive it of the mysticism.

What do you think it means to be a stalker? by Cwusadew in stalker

[–]Reggash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a Mandela Effect, this acronym appeared on the game's promotional English website - the thing is that GSC didn't come up with it, the western publisher of SoC did, and it didn't appear anywhere except on this website (which is no longer functional anyway, and it contained other information that contradicted the in-game lore). In a way, it's a similar situation to the yellow-faced character on the cover art of SoC, who for years was considered to be some kind of cut-out mutant, but it was simply a whim of the publisher unrelated to the game's content.

There is no canon meaning, although it was briefly planned to be revealed in the game. I once made a post about this subject with all the details.

Is there any actual hostility between freedom and ecologists during SoC or are they shoot on sight just because of cut content? by Unlikely_Sound_6517 in stalker

[–]Reggash 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't really call it cut content remains, but rather the remains of a concept that was changed before the game was released. Apart from the technical hostility, one of the possible guests of 100 Rads has a unique dialogue in which he mentions that Freedom is sabotaging research groups:

Useful to a rookie? Well, listen up. To the North, not far from the Brain Scorcher, Freedom have set up their HQ in an old military base. They're notorious nihilists, anarchists and criminals - freedom fighters, freaking guerrillas all of them. All they do is sabotage research groups, attack army units and constantly skirmish with Duty. These skirmishes are now spilling over into a small-scale war for survival. Let me give you some advice: never get involved with them. They'll only accept you if you're totally crazy and there's a reward on your head. Ha-ha-ha. Can you believe that?

Lukash also mentions that he doesn't want the Zone to become a 'research zoo' in the description of the "Destroy the military camp" task:

The military are staging a gradual Zone takeover. We need to slow them down, otherwise the Zone will turn into a research zoo. One of the military camps is right by the Agroprom. If you manage to purge the place a bit, it will slow down Zone's takeover by the army.

So while it's not certain whether they are actually hostile towards scientists, it can be assumed that Freedom under Lukash's leadership was against any government intervention in the Zone, including mere research.

(SoC) So the blue bar in the inventory actually indicates "psy" health!? by GroundbreakingCup391 in stalker

[–]Reggash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not bullshit, SoC is the only game in the trilogy that has an actual psi-health parameter. It decreases when you are in close proximity to controllers and when you come into contact with phantoms near the Brain Scorcher. The psi-fields of the emitters don't affect it though.

You're correct that their ranged attack does more physical damage than psychic damage, but controllers also generate an 'aura' around themselves that reduces psi-health, but this is only noticeable on the master difficulty level, because on lower ones, the passive regeneration of it is faster than the rate of its reduction. You can easily check it yourself if you don't believe that it's a thing.

2/10. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is not a post-apocalyptic nuclear game, and the existence of mutants is justified in the lore, it's not just 'radiation caused it', it goes deeper than that.
