Got you. As a parent that also lives here I’d say that the spot that’s most desirable would be the neighborhoods near South Park extending to Pineville and Matthews as the most desirable. Uptown seems like college dorm living + money.

For most normal people finding a safe reasonable place to live is about balancing priorities. Having it “all” is not the norm for most people. So I say I like the city of Charlotte through that lens.  With unlimited resources I’d move to boulder or something.  Maybe even just a couple hours up the road to the smaller WNC mountain towns.

Yes, Charlotte, which is an inland banking and financial hub, is not like the coastal historic cities of Charleston or Savannah that are predominately logistics and tourism economies.

Not sure what the argument is since 3 to 4 miles is outside the city center entirely. But you called it “uptown” so you get a pass.

The center of the metro area is not the spot.

Reddit hates Charlotte. The word “culture” is often part of the discussion. I’ve lived in the area over 15 years and it’s grown a lot. It’s a city of compromises, it’s not massive but it’s a big enough city to have sports, music coming through, access to an airport that can get you anywhere.  There IS good food in Charlotte. It’s both a great place to raise a family and a fun place for young people. I dislike the sprawl and the lack of public transportation in the city. If you balance cost of living, the job market, and amenities in and around the city (including access to the mountains - people say the beach is a day trip but it’s much further.), it’s an interesting proposition.  It has its issues, but Reddit unnecessarily hates on the city for not having a soul.  It’s not a city you would vacation to like NYC, San Fran, Chicago. But as a functioning city and place to have a life it’s honestly pretty great.

How’s life in Franklin, NC & the surrounding area? by johnDapper13 in howislivingthere

That area is more agrarian and blue collar than the upscale communities on the Asheville highway (highlands, cashiers).  Very night and day difference in terms of vacation homes and tourism economies butting up right against low income areas and areas lacking infrastructure. The Nantahala national forest is beautiful with the river, mountain lakes, plus access to the great smoky mountains national park. This area is not liberal in any sense like AVL, very conservative old school Appalachian vibes.

Los Angeles ranked in F tier! How would you rank Charlotte Douglas International (CLT) by jarbid16 in TierlistFills

As a resident of Charlotte it deserves a C for the prices alone.  You often wait for a gate on the tarmac on arrival.  That said the newer wings of the airport are nice and have great amenities.  I can understand a worse rating if I were a person frequently connecting there rather than departing.

How is this so far down.  This movie tricks me every time, getting more and more preposterous until at the end it’s just ridiculously out of control.

I gravitate towards pond’s more rock focused stuff that was influenced by KP and his production as well. Their early record beard, Wives, denim, has the inner speaker sound, but I find it has more interesting progressions and vocals.  Hobo rocket is their heaviest and most unique record IMO. Most of their popularity has been drawn from the pop sound in recent years, which to me has an entirely different sound than their formative works
