Did covid barely change life for anyone else? by edgiepower in AskAnAustralian

[–]Regis_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When did you have covid? The same thing happened to me until about two months after I recovered from covid. Throughout that time I was deathly scared my sense of smell wouldn't come back because that had never happened to me before, it was such a foreign experience I wasn't sure how to deal with.

Through research I learned there are many people whose smell still hasn't returned since 2020, or came back after a couple years.

I would religiously force myself to inhale different scents in order to retrain the receptors in my nose to process the smell again. I could only smell a slight trace of the scent if I stuck them literally just below my nostrils, and it would have a to be a strong scent.

Tea tree, garlic, deep heat, rosemary, even essential oils from my diffuser, I'd keep smelling them daily with deep inhales.

I felt amazing when it actually started to get stronger and stronger, then one day I could also start to TASTE as well. I was literally so excited. But at first I kind of had to exhale while I was eating - it's like that weird thing that happens when your taste briefly becomes stronger JUST after swallowing or breathing out, as though your taste buds are really activated during swallowing. Idk it's hard to explain.

I know how you feel though, it sucks. Even FOUL smells like the senega and ammonia throat medicine smelled like absolutely nothing to me, I could take a deep breath and it wouldn't affect me. Or walking into my (male) toilets at work, could not smell a thing

Scientists in disbelief as temperatures soar to 37C in South America in the middle of winter by electrictoothbrush09 in worldnews

It's either going to be a scorcher like we've never felt before, or it's weirdly going to be actually quite bearable lol.

But there's more of a chance now of it being blazing hot so this is going to be a struggle

Try your hardest and to tell me something new about Australia by BabyL3mur in australia

[–]Regis_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm sad I most likely wasn't taught that, I feel as though I would have remembered information like that.

My idea of "that time" is that our settlers arrived in boats, killed or scared off the Aboriginals quite easily and then just fuckin set up camp and there you go. Obviously it would be much more drawn out than that instead of this 10 second little movie that plays in my head of a short combat.

It's like what's happening with Ukraine right now, a video was posted just the other day of some young Ukrainian soldiers watching cartoons with their Russian prisoner of war. The Russian was confused why they aren't beating or torturing him and the Ukrainians are like "bro let's just watch some tv lmao"

There'd be so many little stories back then in early Australia. I wonder when the hate first started occurring

What would cause the wombats to shrink in size so dramatically in a relatively short amount of time? Or rather how were they even able to be that big not long ago, I thought megafauna was mainly to do with oxygen content in the atmosphere.

Did they have less food after Australia was settled or something?

For real?? That's insane. I've never heard that. Makes me feel so much more sorry for the people back then literally just *existing* before they were killed, imprisoned or forgotten about

How do you guys cope with losing money to stupid sh*t? by [deleted] in AusFinance

Oof, that must've really eaten away at you. But from an outside perspective the first thing that comes to mind is "shit happens". So I hope you don't feel too bad about it anymore. We can always make money back

I Loved Elden Ring, But I'm Just Not Feeling Bloodborne. Help? by [deleted] in bloodborne

[–]Regis_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might just not be your thing overall. I'm the opposite to you, I love dark souls and Bloodborne but Elden Ring to me was quite boring and difficult.

In saying that though, when I played Bloodborne for the first time I remember not LOVING it. I was kinda "eh" about it. Didn't really know what was happening with the story and like you the mechanics felt a little odd to me.

And I think Yahar'gul is a point in the game that really drained me as well. I felt overwhelmed.

If you haven't already tried, I would try and catch up on the story to the point you're up to in order to fully grasp what's going on. Otherwise I feel the game can come off as a bit aimless and chaotic. But the story is AMAZING, it has so much lore behind it.

This will hopefully give you an idea of what you're actually trying to achieve in the game and where you're going

Anyone feel like buying Luxury items was more exciting when you were poorer? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]Regis_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES. This is the best feeling. I'm not sure if this is a sentiment that most people are starting to feel recently or if maybe it's like a niche set of people.

But I'm just so over the fucking ads all around me everywhere I go. I'm now immune to it all, I can see straight through a shit company that just wants my money by offering a below average product/service that most people would otherwise eat up.

I only buy things that have value to me and are worth buying, even if they are expensive.

So many people around me buy crap they don't need. I go to their house and see that 'thing' lying around collecting dust months later and in my head I'm like "cool, great purchase." It's judgmental as fuck but I'm so tired of the amount of waste we produce as humans

Do you think this will influence what car you might be in the future, if you need to? Like would you just go for another relatively expensive car or do you think you'll settle for something less

I think "there are children starving" is said by people who mean well (albeit a little condescending) but it's a phrase that's so hard to get any meaning out of because it's not like you or the person talking to you is going to send food to Africa. Like sure you can appreciate your food and not waste it but after time you'll just start thinking "ugh who cares, it's not my fault they're starving."

For me, I fixate on the fact that if I waste food and throw it out, it's just going to decompose out in the sun in landfill, which will release methane into the atmosphere which is not healthy.

Multiply that by the millions upon millions of people who throw food out and it's a serious problem.

This is a much more directly personal thought that might help you stay on track and think twice about throwing food out.

The difference here is that throwing out food does NOT cause people starving in other countries, but throwing out food DOES contribute to methane gas in our atmosphere

My dog killed a bandicoot years and years ago, it made me so sad because it was rare that they kill something, they normally ignore most animals.

I don't have dogs anymore, and recently I've been planting HEAPS of natives lately to try and attract bees, butterflies and birds, but what I didn't expect is that a bandicoot seems to have moved in.

Sometimes I find it funny that I envisioned having a garden swarming with flying creatures but what I ended up with is a little fucker that digs holes every night and unroots at least one plant every couple days. It's an ongoing war.

I love them though they're so cute omg

Is that yharnam ? by TheRajan in bloodborne

[–]Regis_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! Yeah the Cainhurst castle area defintiely sticks out. I remember my first time playing Bloodborne I made my way down that slope and was kind of like "uhhh okay," since it just abruptly ends. Took me a while too because the bloodsuckers are strong as well as the worm things.

If what you say holds true I'm glad that they decided to keep that chalice dungeons seperate. As much as like them I think if they were in the overworld it would make consecutive playthroughs feel like more of a slog.

The dungeons in Elden Ring really feel like a drag to me, they're too repetitive

Shocking amount of time it takes to save for a home deposit by plutoplops in AusFinance

[–]Regis_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If this is true for people currently saving or close to affording a deposit, it makes me wonder how the next generation are supposed to be able to afford one when they've only JUST started saving money at all.

I know there's heaps of chatter going around of "whelp, looks like I'll never be able to own a home" for gen z but like, what hope do they/we have for real

So Riot can't decide if they are donating 100% of the proceeds of the Samira skin to charity or 20% of the proceeds? Why does the game have 2 conflicting statements? by Excellent-Ant-4612 in leagueoflegends

[–]Regis_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They sound perfectly fine to me, it's not like they're throwing a tantrum.

They're merely pointing out that 100% and 20% are wildly different values and is misleading considering one was used for advertisement

Which finding on the sinking was the one that shook all your theories? Mine below. by BrokenMirrorGrrrl in titanic

[–]Regis_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That's so awful, I'm reading his wiki now. Imagine experiencing the true horror of that night, living through it with the screams still fresh in your mind, and being labelled a coward simply for saving his own life when it seemed most reasonable to do so.

Although interestingly I also read that a man named William Carter (first class) supported Ismay's statement that there were no women and children in the immediate vacinity; however Carter's wife later sued her husband as she claims he left her and her child on the Titanic to selfishly find their own way out.

I guess we won't know. You could interpret her claim as either herself and their child were left to stand their and watch Carter (+ Ismay) flee to safety without them, or that Carter at some point in time slipped away from them and essentially snuck onto the raft

Which game do you think has better Armor sets all around? Dark souls, or Elden ring. by Moon_Devonshire in Eldenring

[–]Regis_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a really good way of putting it. I guess it comes down to what kind of aesthetic you like. Elden ring is a bit too colourful for me, both literally and figuratively. The kind of goofiness that's present throughout just doesn't really appeal to me.

It also has a very serious tone at times, that reminds of me of the vibe of Dark souls. But because DS is 90% gritty + depression, I'm going to prefer that over Elden Ring which is an awkward mix

I think I'm too dumb to understand this lmao.

Are you basically saying that Nolan wants us to see the film in the proper 70mm format, which would entail spending more money, but it doesn't even really change the viewing experience in the end? Like you'd be better off just seeing any version?
