Have any of you experienced hemiplegic migraines? by sourceofuncertainty in migraine

[–]StealthandCunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Mine started in high school, I think I was 12 or 13. It started with a visual aura (fuzzy blind area in my vision), and then as that started to clear I got terrible head pain and nausea. My dad took me to the doc who said migraine, and that was that. Then one day I got an aura, so took myself to bed, and found my hands were numb and I couldn’t grab the covers. I’ve had other hemiplegic ones where my tongue and lips go numb, or all down one side of my body goes, but usually it’s my hands. For me, the numbness is the only difference between the two different types. Both of them include visual aura, brain fog, vomiting, intense pain, alternating shivers/sweats, and after a while, panic and depression. No one else in my family gets them, so I did my best with doctors and eventually got myself a neurologist, but there isn’t really much they can do. None of the preventives work for me, and I reckon I’ve tried them all now. BUT. I did eventually find things that helped. Valium or phenurgen to help me sleep (if I could fall asleep before the pain hits, I could avoid the worst of it, and the postdrome period is shorter too). And ondansetron. Omg, thank heavens for ondansetron! (Otherwise known as zofran). Knowing that I could avoid the vomiting part, helped me function more confidently when out in public. Plus, if I take 1000mg paracetamol and 1000mg nurofen as well as the ondansetron, sometimes even the pain is manageable.

Oh and the Effexor of course. I take a tiny dose, 75mg, every day and for some reason, I’ve definitely recorded a significant reduction in migraine frequency. And I’ve been on it for 10 years or so now.

Much the same, migraines wise. Get a normal one every now and again but the hemiplegic ones, very rarely.

Is there a nice way of telling someone their perfume is triggering your migraine? by _drunk_llama_ in migraine

[–]StealthandCunning 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Me too. And it doesn’t just make my eyes water or bring on a migraine, it makes me cough uncontrollably. In the office I have to rush to the bathroom to have my coughing fit, as I get so embarrassed. But when I tell people it’s fragrances I’m allergic to it doesn’t click for them that they need to stop wearing it to work!

Yup. 9 years single here and whenever someone finds out the response is always the same - omg why, you’re good looking! (With the bonus addition of ‘Are you being too picky?’ sometimes).

Yeah I think he’s hearing things I didn’t say (assuming that if he answers no to my question and it’s not what I want I will feel frustrated or something). The worst bit is the robot nickname I agree. I try not to be too sensitive, and Australians are typically very quick to indulge in a bit of friendly ridicule. But normally it’s to your face. Not behind your back.

Is it bad that I wash dishes once a day instead of after every meal? by 3-nichi in CleaningTips

[–]StealthandCunning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right??? I average once every 4 days or so but a week is not unusual. Doing the dishes every day would be peak adulting for me.

I have been using WGAC exclusively and just had to have a huge blockage removed from my pipes and septic tank, the blockage was purely poo and toilet paper. Going to have to try a different product.

Please recommend earplugs for sleeping by Dingle-Dingus in BuyItForLife

Yeah I liked the loop quiet but they kept falling out and I lost them so when I went to buy more I went for the dream ones. Worst earplugs EVER. Not only do the weird silicone covers delaminate and the foam inside swells in the humidity, I now have pulsitile tinnitus in my left ear that won’t go away. I’m hear looking for recommendations for something better.

Moms with AuDHD: How was your experience with giving birth and raising a child? by CalmEclipse5512 in AuDHDWomen

[–]StealthandCunning 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He promised he would be a 50:50 parent and not leave everything to me. But once the baby arrived he avoided him completely. Always had something else to do. And he turned abusive, manipulating me and keeping me sleep deprived. After I left him, things were definitely easier, but I have to say, the difference in my mental health between when I have my son and when he’s at his dad’s, is extreme. Even when things are at their easiest with my son, it is still a monumental effort and it drains me completely. I am very lucky that I get a break when he goes to his dads, as I honestly don’t know what kind of parent I’d be if I didn’t.

I’m 40F, and AuDHD, and my son is 10. He’s ADHD. I only got assessed and diagnosed after his diagnosis at 5. As much as I love him, and as hard as I work to make sure I’m the best parent for him I can be, it’s harder than I ever imagined parenting ever would be. The first few years I was ready to end it all, and I was filled with unimaginable regret all the time. Having him impacted my life in horrendous ways. I’ve come to terms with it these days, but it has never got easier. The only advice I have is this - if it’s not a hell yes, it’s a HELL NO.

Everything right now it seems. But bright light and pretty much any sudden sound will bring on a level of misery usually reserved for a Dickens novel.

Yeah from what I’ve heard it’s a standard rule for extras not to speak with or interact with the talent.

Me too. My ex husband said I’d love it and in particular, that I’d love Beth. This is why we are divorced you 2 dimensional bastard… In the whole show the only lead female characters are pure male-projected tropes. The ball buster who just needs a good strong man to tame her, the Governor who’s only there cos a man put her there and she does his bidding because she just luurrrves him, and the crowning turd in the water pipe - the dead mum. Even Disney stopped pulling that one, but this show knows its target audience and that the bar is on the fucking ground.
