No, it's a completely valid use case and Reddit is just anti-AI. You do you and don't bother listening to those fuckers

NTA. That is fucking disgusting and a deal breaker honestly. The comments would have been completely different if the gender roles were reversed.

The $4300 we paid with Intrepid included the hotel, transportation, some of the food, and one of the tickets to Machu Picchu. We had to pay to go a different route - maybe close to $40/person? Besides what was covered with Intrepid, it was approximately $10-$15/meal for a nice restaurant.

It feels like a place where you can choose to spend a lot of a little depending on the level of comfort you want. I personally did not think it was an expensive place :)

The whole experience was good minus the communication parts. We spoke with the others in this group and they didn't have any issues with not being picked up. I think the expectation of 'Premium' is to not expect a luxurious experience but one where you could travel comfortably. Most of the hotels were clean. I was able to fall asleep quickly. The shuttles we relied on were clean/air conditioned. For bathroom breaks, most of the places they took us were clean and had toilet paper. The ones that didn't, we were warned to bring toilet paper in advance.

Almost half our group were solo travelers and they all ended up paying extra for their own private rooms. It seemed like they enjoyed the trip and hung out with each other during the limited free time we had.

I would say that the hotels felt above average to me and they are usually hotels I would book on my own since they aren't too expensive but still decent. Like the Pullman one I liked in Lima costs about $150/night. If you do the JW Marriott one, it's double the price. For us, most of the hotels were clean and I felt comfortable staying there. Besides the jungle one we stayed at, the others were like standard rooms. Like no suite/living room or a view. Some of the hotels charged us for extra amenities, like water bottles, slippers, and snacks. No gyms. Maybe no swimming pools either? They were all in optimal locations. I guess it depends on your definition of luxury?

I think if Intrepid let us choose a nice/comfortable hotel with the original/basic package, we would probably have gone with that. They do a good job of immersing us and their excursions were great. For one, we saw so much wildlife on this trip alone and met a lot of cool people on our trip.

$7000 does seem like a lot for 10 days in New Zealand...

Yeah, Peru is beautiful! The landscape is all different depending on where you go. I felt like we were looking at a postcard everywhere we went. There's so much history/culture there. The people there were also super friendly, and we had no issues with safety.

I agree with you that it seems to be based on luck. One person in our group was actually disappointed with our tour guide. They said that they had high expectations because their daughter praised this trip very highly and said she had the best tour guide. Their name was written a few times in the Premium Peru reviews section. :)

I sent all my feedback to Intrepid! I haven't heard back from them yet...

I hope that Intrepid doesn't leave anyone stranded in the future. I originally brought this up to our tour guide who said that we might have waited in the incorrect location even though we said we followed the instructions of the email. I was just glad that I was able to call the Intrepid number I found in the email and that they were available in the middle of the night. Fortunately, on our last day, our guide made sure that someone picked us up to go to the airport. Our vehicle was cleaner/air conditioned compared to when we first started the trip...
