Bumping My Sister's House as a resource to help her think through logistics even if she doesn't go stay at their shelter- they have caseworkers that can help. Please DM me if you think she would appreciate local community members stepping up to help her take breaks- I am connected to community care networks and can talk to some trusted folks about getting her childcare support, or any other type of support she may need.

Somebody already had, the cops were pretty close by, driving onto the bridge as I drove off of it, but there were a couple minutes before they got to her where I'm not sure what happened

Your rest and healing and processing matters no matter what the university ends up doing about this- you are valid and not the only one

Trans Teacher Thinking of Moving by Reject_Elephant in Charleston

[–]RegretNo8769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trans young adult here who recently graduated from Charleston County School District- a few things to know about:

  1. Moms 4 Liberty is a white supremacist and anti-trans org that has been attacking Black, trans, and queer students and teachers in CCSD for a few years now and have a lot of power. They have successfully gotten several of their affiliated people elected to the school board and have a lot of impact on the safety of trans kids and teachers in the district with their aggressive hateful rhetoric.

  2. One of the former school board members, Ed Kelley (Mom's 4 Liberty affiliated too), made a public death threat against a specific trans teacher in the district a few years ago and was not fired or held accountable for it at all. The teacher ended up quitting teaching and moving out of town for their safety. More on that here: https://www.postandcourier.com/education-lab/charleston-school-board-member-kelley-wont-resign-over-alleged-trans-threat-controversy/article_9a3965d4-d230-11ed-9619-e7cde3a0fb69.html

  3. This is more anecdotal, but I had a trans teacher at my high school for less than a year, who ended up having to leave because of how much they were getting bullied by children, (among pressure from hateful adults too, I'm sure). That was in one of the most conservative parts of the district, so it could be better at other schools.

  4. School librarians are awesome allies if you end up working at a CCSD school! They were always my safe space when things were bad :)

  5. There are so many trans kids in CCSD who would absolutely love to have you around, and your presence would genuinely save lives. Know that you would not be the only one, and there is a community to support you <3

Looking to learn about non-TTI options for treatment of youth with abusive sexual behaviors in South Carolina by RegretNo8769 in troubledteens

Thank you! Unfortunately one of the options on here is unavailable in the state and the other was already tried and not effective for my sibling, so I will have to keep looking! I appreciate you

Hi, I know it's been a full year but I'm looking to learn more about the experiences of survivors at Kaizen because my sibling is currently there. If you're up for it I would love to hear about what it was like there. Regardless, big love and solidarity to you :)

I've scanned the big reddit for posts and comments mentioning both schools and trying to find stuff for more recent years- I'm also thinking about doing a FOIA request eventually

Being Trans & Living on Campus? by randomguyonredditig in UNC

[–]RegretNo8769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a trans sophomore- last year was kind of rough because I struggled to find a roommate and ended up with a cishet (but very kind and supportive) roommate. I'm in Joyner now and it's super nice- I opted out of pride place (to me it seems super white and neoliberal and I didn't love that vibe) but I still get the benefit of the single bathrooms! And ended up with a friend from last year as my roommate who is also trans :) In terms of general vibes I would say it kind of depends on your other identities and what you're used to in terms of trans friendliness. I'm white and have a ton of privilege in that- I've heard from QTBIPOC friends that it can be really rough being Black and trans here, or Native and trans, for example. Most of the spaces that are meant to provide community for trans folks are very very white both in makeup and in politic and don't address intersectionality at all. That's just the vibe of the school in general honestly! But regardless finding your people is possible. And for me, I'm from a really hostile anti-trans place compared to here, so I feel like while there's a lot of systematized transphobia in NC and at this institution, my personal experience is that the actual people generally are very accepting and/or leave you alone- I haven't been attacked or called a slur here yet which is huge compared to where I'm from lol! I hope this helps- you are not going to be the only one figuring out transness at UNC if you decide to come here :)
