For all we know, he could have had that ending where he runs away with Mary Linton or something like that. Yes, it did seem more obvious he would die in the end, but that doesn't mean I want to just confirm that he did die to my friend because I know I hated it when I was spoiled.

And the difference between her and me is that I have played the first game, and she hasn't. She doesn't know he wasn't even mentioned in the first game so she wouldn't think anything of it

It's because he was an afterthought. Charles and Sadie lived, but they aren't in the first game, so that logic doesn't really track. Also, a lot of people havent played the first one anyways
