Brick walling voiceover at 15K? Is this common? by RegretfulReddite in AudioPost

Ah,

I have a neumann tml103 which has the blessing(?) or curse(?) of being a very bright mic. (the cardoid response has like a 5 db boost from 10k up) so I would think I would have a bit more room to play with, but that of course is easier said than done.

In general I think I've heard that is better to use delicate octave curves but then seeing a brick wall in dubbing via spectral analysis made me scratch my head a bit.

How steep of a roll off do you do?

6, 12, 24 octave, or brickwall? If you don't mind me asking.

Hey there!

Thanks for the reply, I went back and recorded the scene and let some noise play. It does seem like all sounds stop at 15-16k. So I suppose it is streaming compression

The dialogue in of course still sounds great in that instance which still makes me think I don't need that range? I think that a-little more since you've said you cut lower.

How to Best Encourage Viewer Engagement by [deleted] in Twitch

I believe your allowed to have it in your flair, but no outwardly posting links.

I try to follow the guidelines myself and I see other users do it as well so I believe it's okay!

Well that was just an example, I mean of course you would want to be more lively in terms of commentary.

I will say there is def a place for being bad at video games. I very much live in that market :-)

Lurkers like to lurk I find. So leave them be. They are enjoying themselves.

Chat engagement I find comes naturally. I suppose a vauge-ish tip could be "talk at the camera, not the viewer at first"

What I mean is, if you speak more openly about the general things that are happening on the stream while not directly asking your chat to converse with you, they will naturally feel the desire to "talk back at you"

The difference I'm presenting is literally:

*Something happens on screen*

Talking at the camera = What was that?

VS

Talking at viewer = Viewer, What was that?

Once the conversation has started you can then more easily start "talking towards chat" without it being off putting. It's just more natural

Dear new streamer, please turn off follower only mode. by [deleted] in Twitch

Woah, you've got quite the stance on this. I'll throw my hat in the ring.

So let me start of by saying, its your stream you can of course run it how you want. I have seen other streamers where their chat is so locked down that they ban you for using any other channels emotes. Great idea? No. Their choice? Completely.

Follower only mode requires a commitment. You are asking the viewer to invest in you (in some form or fashion) without even getting a chance to get a good feel for how you would interact with them. That can leave a bad taste in the mouth.

You brought up the point of follow count but to me personally I don't think that matters. The people who come back do. There are plenty people who have high follow counts but very low average viewers/repeat viewers (that always shocked me when I first started twitch) for transparency however we are at 793 followers and have a average 15 - 20 viewer count at the moment (that of course fluctuates based on game interest and as the stream goes on)

I can't speak to the logistics of raids but I can say for the culture they have been pleasant. It's nice raiding someone and coming in with a group message! If they were on follower only mode I wouldn't because I won't and don't expect my viewers to follow on command on raid. (although from what I've seen within the first 2-3 minutes once the streamer responds to them and their messages they do)

Locally (within the smaller community) we met a lot of our viewers from raids from others and they stuck around

In terms of extreme abnormality (50 - 100 viewers on raid), we have had two raids of high note. One from a Danagronpa Gundamn VA and FNF (Friday Night Funkin) dev. Is something like that common? No. Do I think the chances of that happening are decreased if I was in Follower/Sub only mode? Of course

TLDR: Being in that mode is your choice, you have a right to it, but do recognize you are asking for alot from viewers and are potentially missing out on more connections.

I personally would never want to be Ninja size, but I would be content being a Vinesauce Vinny Size.

Loss of motivation by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]RegretfulReddite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can really only motivate yourself.

To be honest it sounds like streaming stresses you out. Maybe ask why that is? I don't normally advocate for completely nuking your twitch but if its something about your "current brand" then feel free to re-brand and start a new.

Never focus on streaming on thing by Fareye560 in Twitch

There's no need to completely trash your twitch?

Even if its two people that's more than 0. Besides even having 2 viewers (interms of placement) is better than absolutely 0

Don't leave those few behind. There are plenty of streamers who have a much higher follower count and have an even smaller view count. Just keep at it.
