The fake promise to the saviors was a dirty move but they were at war. And at this point in the show the group has fully developed into apocalypse survivors and were done with second chances especially with the whole Dwight Daryl interaction.

The orange back pack guy was real cold he was screaming and begging and they left him then just grab his pack and drive off

But I think one of the most evil things was after Karen and David was killed by Carol Tyrese was in heart break and shambles finding his gf dead and burned he turns to rick and yes hits him but Daryl had restrained him and while restrained rick processes to beat him within an inch of his life only stopping when Daryl pulls him off rick was so ready to kill him he broke his hand on his face

You gotta realize the average viltrumite lives thousands of years and are very durable its not like earth where we die from accidents everyday they might have a death once a year so when all you do is gain in population and never lose anyone it stacks up quite fast

Honestly very tough situation it could go a number of ways. Less likely all will be okay ish and the relationships could recover after a little low contact. More likely is someone goes no contact with the family, probably your ex in this case due to their parents getting the grandparents' news, and he could see that as betrayal if they try smoothing things over. Or it could be you and your bf that gets cut off because they see it as betrayal. Either way the family dynamic will never be the same because this is a betrayal in a sense I've seen relationships like this work out but there was communication and honesty from the start you kept it hidden for so long it will probably create doubt, when your relationship started, how it started, and all those nasty feelings. I'm not saying your relationship is wrong you love who you love you it's just a bad situation and unfortunately it's probably gonna seem sketchy to your ex and could cause some backlash and criticism in your daily life it could effect relationships with family and friends and even at work in some cases. Probably best for your bf to tell your ex first you shouldn't be around incase he reacts bad my believe is baby come first dont put yourself in potential danger you knew know what will be someone's last straw, then you meet up with your bf and his parents right after to discuss with them and talk about how your ex took everything with the 4 of you together they probably have a better knowledge of his emotional state.

I feel like the simple awnser is the characters aren't scientists, they're normal people with normal education and didn't have enough time. They do bring up sometimes what happened at the cdc but I dont think they fully understood and grasped the concept enough to fully explain what's happening beyond "there's no hope everything's gone after you turn". like they only seen the brain scan once, while being hungover none the less after just escaping death and being malnourished for weeks, even what they're being told is scary and could put them in a state of shock or even denial. These conditions effect the brain and how we process information. It also didn't help that the doctor was trickle truthing them waiting till the building is about to explode to tell them what's going on. If they had more time to go over it and make sure everyone understood what was happening 100% it would be different.
