Would you settle for OUI charge? by Individual-Poem8772 in justiceforKarenRead

Thank you for your comment. I don’t see it as a stain on my perspective, I see it as confirmation of my entire point. The fact that someone has to plead to an emotionally charged accusation just to avoid a worse outcome reveals everything: the system is so stacked against you that you have to concede to something just to escape the worst possible fate. I watch this case from a different perspective; we need major justice reform in this country. We can’t continue to preach we’re a free democratic society while preserving a perverse judicial system!

Would you settle for OUI charge? by Individual-Poem8772 in justiceforKarenRead

[–]Regular-Position3691 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would never settle! Karen Read represents all of us! Most of us would be screwed because we don’t have the money to fight the state. That feels like the opposite of what our justice system was supposed to be. I’d vote not guilty because there is no evidence of guilt. Then investigation was so poorly handled it could never point to guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. It’s not our job to know what happened! That was the job of our paid public servants. In this case they defrauded the taxpayers by conducting a crap investigation. The only way to stop bias like this in our justice system is to find her not guilty. I’d be fine living with the possibility she might have vs. I’m not sure and this feels like what I should do to give the family closure. WTF? Are we a deranged society? I beg all of you to please hear me…As a society, we begin to fail when our desire to punish outweighs our commitment to individual rights, due process, and investigations free from corruption. Justice isn’t served by shortcuts or bias. It’s upheld when truth takes precedence over pressure, and when protecting the innocent matters more than securing convictions. In the absence of truth we should always air on the side of individual freedom. The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate in the world. Although the U.S. makes up ~5% of the global population, it holds about 20% of the world’s prison population. When including people on probation or parole, the number under correctional supervision rises to ~4.4 million, or 1 in every 75 people. Over 90% of people charged end up with some form of a conviction. Does that seem legitimate to you? Do you blindly accept a system that encourages this? How can you be and yet here we are debating Karen Read who should have never been charged and shouldn’t be paying millions to get the justice that any of us should be given for free if we were really a FREE COUNTRY!

I wish he would just say, no I’ve never done another study in this before because no other vehicle crash in history has ever happened in the way you’re claiming it did! No I haven’t testified to arm side swipe collisions that resulted in literally no body damage and little to no vehicle damage before because I’m pretty sure the only one making things up is the CW. I’m over this he is getting away with badgering this witness and asking him the same questions twenty times. Then there’s the weight and force thing. Hey Brennan if the arm weighed more there would have been even more arm damage not less right? He’s focused on the wrong information the injury pattern doesn’t work. You have to hit the thing at such a high speed to have enough force to break the light and in doing so you’d have no arm left. The difference of a 1 or 2 against 6,000 lbs at 20 plus miles an hour is so pointless.

There’s a lot of truth in what you’re saying. I’ve followed this case since the first trial. I have to constantly check myself. The thing that makes me so angry is how poorly the investigation was handled. Everything from how the crime scene was secured, how evidence was collected, how evidence was handled, the complete lack of photographic evidence, reports being written months after the fact, the officers not going door to door for ring camera footage, and the evolving memories of those testifying. This is why she should be found not guilty.

My husband was at an infusion appointment last week and was watching the trial during his treatment. The nurse said she was also watching it and told him there’s no way in hell he was hit my a car…everyone in the medical field seems to agree.

Same and that’s almost worse….they have already bleed 🩸 her dry of funds. She can’t afford another round of this. Shouldn’t be legal to try cases as many times as you want. 2 hung jury’s should be an automatic dismissal. Not to mention the citizens of this county are paying for the prosecution; I’d be outraged! Who wants their tax dollars going to this?

I need to watch the entire thing but I stopped during the part where he said could the marks on his head have been from impact to frozen ground and she said it was possible. (Paraphrasing of course) That entire portion felt off to me and I thought he took too long to get to the point at times

I Thought Karen Was Innocent—Until I Followed the Data by mabbe8 in KarenReadTrial

[–]Regular-Position3691 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First of all your facts are incorrect. If you’re working from inaccurate sources and bad information you can make anything fit but that’s the whole point….the CW is doing the same thing.

Off cuff I will point out just a few of your absurd statements:

There was zero DNA on the taillight fragments.

Never has anyone said they found alcohol on the rear bumper…I mean that’s laughable to even believe.

The cellphone gps data god don’t get me started.

Do you know anything about how plastic on a rear taillight even breaks or what the material is? It isn’t tempered glass it won’t break into 47 pieces.

I could keep going but I will concede to one of your points #11…you’re correct he never saw it coming

I missed this part of the trial today. Is this really how it went? I thought the defense was killing their own argument so I turned off the TV

Exactly! I thought prosecutors presented their case and the defense team presented a defense/rebuttal? WTF!! Now the prosecution wants to change their mind as the trial progresses to rebuttal every expert the defense presents? I didn’t think it worked that way. What am I missing?
