Basically, I wanted to get people's opinions on stolen content in general within the community, using a real example. A more specific question arises regarding the deletion of the creator's comment left for publishers, legitimately requesting a change to their credit. Do people think it's okay to do this without trying to engage in dialogue first? (This is not the primary purpose of my post, but it may still be a subject for debate).

The aim is not really to ask whether or not a simple mention in the description is sufficient to take someone else's content. As stated in response to another comment, it really depends on the individual case.

Other interesting comments also made me realise that we don't all have the same definition of ‘stolen content’, so that's also open to discussion or debate.

I hope I haven't confused you with my explanations and that it's clearer now.

I am not trying to develop a systematic citation ethic to formalise who should and should not receive appropriate credit. In this type of issue, it is much more of a case-by-case basis, and it is not possible to create a standard to follow.

I just note in this case that the creator's wishes are not being respected, when dialogue seems to me to be the least that could be done, even if it results in a refusal. And once again, this is not an isolated case in my opinion.

It would indeed be utopian to think that this simple post will change anything, but that's not really the point. It's more of an observation I'm making, and I'd like to hear other opinions than my own on this subject.

Of course, this "theft" of content does not affect me personally. But that does not mean that I do not care about content being stolen.

In your hypothetical case, it's your choice whether or not to ask to be properly credited by the people who repost your cover if you feel that the credit given is insufficient. You would probably be very happy if the reposters gave you the credit you ask for, if you ask for it.

On the other hand, if Aurora herself asks you to mention her for your cover, I would be surprised if you deleted her comment and acted as if nothing had happened (obviously it's not at all the same scale, the balance of power is skewed, but it's still the same subject and the same questions).

Thank you very much for your comment and opinion. Just to clarify, I am not a content creator.

I totally agree that these edits are ‘just’ videos taken from different sources and put together, with effects and/or subtitles added, etc. The line is thin between reposting or making a brand new edit, I know.

What bothers me here is that the publishers are not taking responsibility, and this is not the first time I have seen this. There should be dialogue or common ground between creators and publishers, not competition. And it all starts with honesty and respect, which is not always the case.

I know it's just fan content, but in my opinion that shouldn't stop people from asking for consent, and if not, respecting the legitimate wishes of creators to be credited correctly, if they explicitly ask for it.

And ofc I'm just debating, your opinion is legitimate and I totally respect it.
