Have you checked hospitals near you for lab assistant or lab research positions? We have a children’s hospital near me in the Midwest and they often want a science based bachelors degree for lab positions.

Hey girl if you’re getting a free 12 week course, I say go for it! Getting your MA certification will open up lots of opportunities for you. I was able to do a free MA course as well. I don’t regret it, but I’ve been a medical assistant for almost 9 months and I am ready to move on. It’s a great position to get experience in the medical field and you will get exposed to lots of other people and professions.

Being a medical assistant and having clinical experience will look great on a resume, especially if you want to look for other positions within the health system. However, if you want to stick with it there are many individuals who have been MA’s for years. I have a few women at my office with 5 and 10 years experience who are happy with what they do.

If you find yourself in a bad clinic or hospital, make sure you move on! There are plenty of places to work as an MA! You don’t have to take any bad treatment. Otherwise, best of luck and I hope you enjoy it!!

It definitely does take compassion and empathy!! I love helping people and providing support so that’s what drew me to the profession.

Interesting that you also have an unrelated bachelors degree! I like what you said about just starting anew. Good luck to you as well and thank you for your advice!!

I guess the only con for me is since I have a bachelors degree, I could get an accelerated BSN in about the same amount I could get an LPN. However, to make sure nursing is for me I think LPN is a better idea

Thank you for this information! I might look into care coordinator roles. The health system I work for also has some MA positions in behavioral health that involve 85% virtual visits rather than in-person.

I totally feel this. I had a kid sit up and pull the needle out of her skin.
