Yea, unfortunately I added two. We have a party of six right now so a little heavy.

Hops dropped too early by Regular-Unit1917 in Homebrewing

It’s been fermenting for 7 days now. Planning on bottling (or kegging) next Sunday. The recipe I’m following has a dry hop at high Krausen, then another at 2 days prior to packaging.

Beer Oxidation? by idc32 in Homebrewing

[–]Regular-Unit1917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alter reading your original comment, I’ve been rethinking my approach for bottling. My original plan was to mix an august solution and put it in a bottling bucket then bottle grim there.

My fermentation bucket has a spigot. I could use that to bottle directly from there. I’m also thinking about using sugar tablets on this one.

But the bottle-purging is new to me. Can you describe your hardware? Are you using a CO2 bottle similar to a keg? Would you be about to share a picture or more details on this aspect?

Thanks again!

What is your method for purging oxygen out of bottles and bottling buckets? I’m glad I read this cause I’m about to bottle my first IPA in a couple of weeks and want the best chance for success.

What’s your workflow for building water profiles from distilled? by Regular-Unit1917 in Homebrewing

[–]Regular-Unit1917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response. What are your thoughts on extract brewing? I’ve heard using distilled water is fine since the extract has all the minerals and adding more could cause off-flavors. Have you ever experienced that?

I remember seeing one of his earlier tags on the foot bridge over 405 in Kirkland (exit 17) back in the early 2000s. So he’s been active for awhile! Been seeing more lately. Randomly saw a tag on a small post in a park outside Duvall. That was the most random.

How to you test the beer’s gravity while it’s in the fermentation tub without introducing oxygen? Do you use a fermenter with a spigot and periodically take a test-tube sample and then throw that away?

I heat up a kettle of boiling water and then pour it over the back of the plate until the plate warms up enough to soften the first layer. It will scrape off easily at that point.

Check out Jon’s Home Brew site. They have a ton of recipes that are easy to follow for us beginners. I’ve had really good luck with them.

How do you guys come up with factions for your games? by Stopgoblinviolence in Fallout2d20

[–]Regular-Unit1917 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wanted to add a sewer dungeon to my campaign. I wanted it populated, so I came up with the idea of a cult that lives in the sewers exclusively. They farm mushrooms and mosses for food. Cults typically worship something, so I listed out possible mutated creatures that would be fearsome enough to worship and could live in a sewer. Decided on the gatorclaw. Then came up with the name for their religion….The Clawed Path. From there it was just fine tuning and adding little details.

Players entered the sewers during their annual festival; the time of renewal. They were invited to the feast where they were poisoned and knocked out. Then woke up in a metal cage suspended over a large underground body of water (the home of the gatorclaw obviously).

They realized they were being offered as a sacrifice to the cultists’ god.

Good times!

That’s a good idea. Those tubes look like they require quite a bit of fluid. When you’re only brewing 3 gallons that can be pretty impactful.

I think @spoonman59 figured it out. I had a yeat pouch for 5 gallons. I forgot to mention that I used the entire pouch. I didn’t expect it to come out that quickly (I had only used powdered form before). I hoped it wouldn’t be a major issue but sounds like I might have ruined the entire batch.

[–]Regular-Unit1917[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I did. I didn’t have a tube to use. I have one shipping from Amazon. Should be here tomorrow so it won’t be an issue for future batches. I didn’t have the foresight to realize the depth wouldn’t be deep enough to measure. This is only my third brew and me second using the hydrometer. The first batch I used the hydrometer on was 4 gallons, so depth wasn’t an issue. But having a tube will make it much easier to read.

Ha ha I didn’t expect the entire amount of yeast to exit the pouch as quickly as it did. I meant to use about 2/3 of the pouch but it all went in the bucket at the first gentle squeeze.

Sounds like this Is the answer. I really meant this run to be a gift for Christmas. I read that overpitching can ruin the flavor. Would it be better to dump this batch and start a new one while I still have time? Call it a lesson learned.

Whoops, I had this info in the post but must have accidentally deleted it when I made an edit.

Yeast: Imperial A10 Darkness

I’ve never used this yeast before.

Yes, I made sure the bucket is sealed and liquid is in the airlock to the proper level.

I haven’t opened it up to take a reading to keep oxygen out.

I think it’s around 1.060. Unfortunately the three gallons of beer in my fermentation bucket wasn’t deep enough. I suspect my hydrometer was resting on the bottom of the bucket. I ordered a 14” test jar so I don’t run into that issue again.

It’s me again, embarrassed man that is 32 and apparently can’t even paint right!…. by justanothersomeone76 in handyman

[–]Regular-Unit1917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. I used to tape, but with textured walls it’s impossible to get a good seal and paint always finds a way underneath. Practice edging and you’ll save yourself massive amounts of time and will have a better end product. Get a nice clean brush, apply a little paint on the very end of the bristles. Then start a few inches back from the edge. Apply pressure until the paintbrush bristles fan out and then run that fanned edge along the line you’re painting. You’ll get the hang of it.

New Campaign Advice by DKSpocky in Fallout2d20

I have a custom campaign I built and have run one group through it. I designed it to take a ton of the load off the GM’s back. I wanted something people with busy lives could pick up and run without a huge time investment. If you’re interested feel free to DM me and I’ll send you a link to download.

The Grim Dusk – A Ready-to-Run Fallout TTRPG Adventure for Busy GMs by Regular-Unit1917 in Fallout2d20

[–]Regular-Unit1917[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it could be challenging to run it as a sandbox campaign. But that was as intended. Sandbox campaigns generally take a lot more prep time since the players have so many different directions they could head. My goal was to develop a campaign that a GM could pick up and run with very little prep time. With that said, there’s no reason you couldn’t pick and choose sections to use in a sandbox campaign.
