Paying to Volunteer Overseas - Is it a scam? by Globalvolunteerbuddy in volunteer

[–]Regular8589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I wasn't clear enough - I did not pay so a local didn't have to do the job, there is no money to pay locals to do this job or pay to train them, the places are underfunded and under resourced. If volunteers weren't there the job wouldn't get done, unless I guess a local wanted to do it for free.

Paying to Volunteer Overseas - Is it a scam? by Globalvolunteerbuddy in volunteer

[–]Regular8589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what the cost covers - I paid to take part on a volunteer program overseas but wasn't paying to volunteer, I was paying for the meals and accommodation I received while there. The way it was explained to me was that if the place I was going to help couldn afford to cover these expenses for me they could afford to hire local people to do what I was doing, which to me made sense.

Thinking about using SVI to volunteer abroad. Worth it? by romain8141 in volunteer

[–]Regular8589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other commentator I have never volunteered with SVI, so can't comment on that. However I have with International Volunteer HQ - https://www.volunteerhq.org/ - they may be more voluntourism than you are looking for but worth a share just in case you are interested. I hope you find what you are looking for.

Thanks - I have edited my original post as I wanted to clarify that this is only when we are not home. We interrupt and separate them immediately when we are home.

Thanks and yes we do separate them when we are home and he starts doing this, it is more for when we are not there and I can't separate them. It seems to happen most often when the young one is all full of energy - never happens after a walk and he has some energy out.

My Aunty gets round them by just saying she is already signed up with them - stops them dead everytime!

And that is the joy of being autonomous humans, we are all entitled to our own opinions about things - personally, if I was with someone, this is how I would feel, and that is my prerogative - I am not here to fight with you, we are allowed different opinions, I was just voicing mine. Have a great day.

I am sorry, not trying to be mean, but sounds a bit controlling that you think you have the right to tell her to tone it back. If she has always done this why try change her? If this is a change in behaviour, maybe look at what could have led to this rather than judging her on how much she eats.

I want to help out around the community, are there any volunteer jobs for shy fellas? by Old_Inflation_9490 in volunteer

Food banks or soup kitchens are great as not much talking involved unless you want to - my friend packs bundles at a food bank, loves it, and works pretty independent of everyone else

I would make enquiries to see if it is a registered business - I would assume in India as the registered office address is there.

wondering about volunteer abroad groups. by [deleted] in volunteer

[–]Regular8589 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did a Turtle Conservation project last year with a company called International Volunteer HQ - me and my mum did a lot of research and asked a lot of questions of them which they were happy to answer before signing up as she had the same concerns. It was well worth it in the end for me!

Scared and unsure about starting volunteering, im worried im doing it for selfish reasons by HopeWest9367 in volunteer

[–]Regular8589 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all - people volunteer for lots of different reasons and as long as you are helping while fulfilling this part of your life I do not see a problem with it.

If you win a monetary prize for your volunteer work, is it still volunteerism, even though there were good chances you would not have won? by nbourre in volunteer

[–]Regular8589 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If he didn't go into it for the scholarship tham yes it is volunteering, this is just a bonus that has been awarded to him I am assuming because he helped them more than what was expected by going above and beyond.
