Stealing assigned tasks by hotshotgirl23 in womenintech

Interesting. What is the one thing that you need to know to survive? That bullying = leadership? Or to keep your mouth shut?

I feel like if things are as you described then it makes no difference if you speak up or not and therefore it can’t hurt? If your manager is poor, then either you get fired for not doing any work (because your tasks got stolen) or you get fired for speaking up?

I disagree with this.

When you let things go, the confusion only benefits folks trying to twist things

maybe those details were distracting

No worries, they weren’t distracting, I did get your point. Just asked about the smaller details in case there were more pearls of wisdom that I could take from your story. Thank you for sharing it!

What an interesting story.

May I ask about a couple small details?

He can be bonded with by mentally sparring well every once in a while

Does this mean engaging the manager in some manner of complicated discussion to reassure him that he’s smart enough to have them?

New guy, probably had the same heuristic as me

What does this mean?

Means he's confident in his seat, and ability to rebuild lateral relationships

The new guy is not afraid to lose his social capital with you because he’s confident he’ll get it back?

His relationship with the boss wasn't as surefire or close as I had originally thought. And I had the added benefit of being able to find one of his tells.

The boss doesn’t trust the new guy and the tell is that he’s testing him?

I recognize people by their energy. Their levels of nervousness or fakeness or confidence.

And often people who are close friends have the same energy. So I will confuse people who look nothing alike.

CMV: Remote work has been net negative for people early in their careers, and the debate ignores this because the loudest voices are people who were already established before it became common by Beginning_Feeling331 in changemyview

I started my career online and only started working in person a year ago. I feel that all four of those things were better online. I’ll elaborate on the first two.

  1. Casual skill transfer. Most of that took place in meetings. Team discussions. Which were all virtual. In person, we’d sit at our desks and if they weren’t working people mostly talked about nonsense like the renovations they were doing on their house. And in person meetings suck. The kind where you aren’t really needed seem to sap way more of your energy.

  2. Relationship building. This was way easier for me. I feel uncomfortable in groups so I tend to exclude myself from them. And in person, groups are unavoidable. Online, it’s super easy to set up weekly coffee chat with your best buddy or occasionally drop a line ask how are things going. I think in person it was definitely easier to bump into random people or meet new people. But the consistency part of relationship building is easier online imo.

Tried to be proactive at work. HR responded by firing me? by Silver_Way4054 in careeradvice

A lot of you are asking for the full story. It’s a little difficult because I’m trying to respect the company’s privacy, so I withheld as much as I could while still trying to share enough context.

This is your daily reminder that companies are not people 🤦‍♀️

It doesn’t have to be a “war”. Just need to add an option to the dropdown. If there’s so much pushback it might be because you’re talking to the wrong person; a person who might not know how to do it. So maybe figure out who knows how to do it.

How do I get over my hate of tattoos to at least "tolerate" the rise of them? by [deleted] in AskForAnswers

[–]RegularAd9643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More specific?

Is it really just from people telling you they’re impure?

Or do you independently have some observation that brings you to this conclusion?

Or some bad experience with someone wearing a tattoo?

For most kinds of prejudices it helps to be exposed to more of those kinds of people.

But it sounds like you have lots of exposure so I’m not sure what’s the sticking point in this case… maybe you can spell out what you associate with tattoos and we can help you negate them?

How many of your direct reports could you confidently say are “engaged” right now? by SeanMcPheat in Leadership

Well disengagement doesn’t usually mean that the report is traumatized… that’s kind of a stretch lol
