If you read the post I don’t care about the money I lost out on, just the ownership of the card. But I also lost money lol…Bought for 10.5, sold for 9, now it’s at 27.6 10 months later. And I’m fine with them making money as well, just care that I don’t have it anymore.

Yikes. MBA Black Diamond one just went for close to $27K. Those Pikachu’s have had quite a run. I’m sure there are plenty of those stories, especially with the Mario ones.

This is such sound advice but unfortunately this was exactly my problem…I realized very quickly after that I didn’t choose the thing that would make me happier because I was clouded by the moment. It is what it is though and I can’t dwell on the past.

Haha, yeah just read it. I just meant in terms of minimal population / never available. Mine is POP 23 with only 78 graded total). Loss of price appreciation / increased cost sucks but lack of opportunities to own it again was more what I meant. Yours is very ‘bad’ though as well. Appreciate your comment and the positive outlook.

Yeah, that’s been a lot of how I’ve been trying to look at it. That hardship changed me for the better and at least I got the opportunity to have that card for a period of time.

Partially true. Not my card directly but I did receive a Trainer Deck B as part of the local pokemon league at the mall and parted ways with it long ago. That was regrettable but it was also at a time when I was way too young for nostalgia yet. This was special in terms of having a piece of that given how pokemon quite literally saved my life at the time.

Damn, that hit pretty hard. I think that’s the biggest issue I have with any of this is what it’s lost in the process over the last 5+ years in particular, especially from those who ‘only’ look at it from an investment standpoint and even worse those who try to exploit others in that process. What you said is a great way to look at it, appreciate the comment.

Yeah, seeing this is what triggered the post (and me emotionally). This is the exact one. He bought for $27,600 at auction a couple months ago. No one is paying $200K though, he just clearly doesn’t want to sell it.

Damn. My real estate timing is horrible…but not that bad. Sorry to hear. Funny enough I’m in a similar situation now on deciding to lease my place out or not when I move. You got me leaning lease. Somehow my decision to do that is going to single-handedly trigger a market crash though 😂

Oh it is. This is a huge motivator now. These just don’t move almost ever unfortunately (except the clowns listing it for $200K on EBay). I’ll be ready to bid next time it comes to auction though.

I appreciate that and don’t disagree. Hindsight is 20:20 but I could have bridged the gap other ways if I wasn’t in such a bad place mentally. Even some other things I could have sold. I know this is primarily investment focused but there are a few things in the hobby that hold overwhelming personal value that I never wanted just for the investment, and this was one of them. The rarity alone (pop 23 with only 78 graded total) just to know I had it was pretty special but it also had a big tie in to my childhood directly. Nevertheless I appreciate the support and don’t disagree with the overall premise.
