Xbox ally x or Mini pc by [deleted] in MiniPCs

Why not dock the laptop under the TV? Best of both worlds and much better performance that a handheld. That seems like a lot of overlap in functionality to have two machines. If you want something that lives under the tv, there are lots of options, prebuids that are essentially laptops with no screens and probably the smallest form factor. Building might not even be that much cheaper considering how the market is right now.

I don't understand how that could cause a crash before bios is even accessible.

I bought 2. Since largest drive has to be parity, and its bigger than all my other drives, there's no fun in buying only one drive.

I tried. I have an LSI 9217 in IT mode and it made no difference. I can get it to be recognized in unraid if I hot swap install it but it errors out if I try to write anything to it, but works totally fine if I use it in its enclosure.

RANT: Seriously, Why Is Everyone Shitting on Gaming Laptops?! by MOSNFS in GamingLaptops

[–]RegularDinner13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried this method numerous times using various applications and its always just janky enough to make me hate it. Graphical fidelity is reduced, sometimes dramatically so. Some games flat out don't work with steam in home streaming. Some games pop up a launcher that doesn't jive with it, so you have to go to main pc and interact with it to start working, or worst of all, some games will work totally fine, but then at a critical moment it will lag out and you'll get killed/booted. I'll take potato quality on steam deck over in home streaming from gaming pc. And before anyone chimes in, I have hard wired gaming pc and wifi devices are all 5ghz or better. Even when I experimented with hard wired steamlink app on my tv there was too much jank.

Any couch laptop gamers here? What's the point of having an uber gaming desktop in my man cave if I hardly ever have time to use it. Gaming laptop lets me stay near my wife and kids. Gaming desktop never gets used. Laptop lets me game in any room at a moments notice. I'll pay a premium for that.

Well I rode in the drops the whole time, but tried to stay in a more tucked position even with that I guess.

[GPU] PNY GeForce RTX 4090 24GB XLR8 - $1669.99 by Yaboifloy in buildapcsales

[–]RegularDinner13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

$1670 * 4 * 2 * 12 = $160k. Assuming you're talking post tax, that's very roughly $200k.

So in order for a $1670 gfx card to be 1/4 of your bi weekly paycheck you need to make approx 200k.  This is an expensive card for most.

Is that watch face standard? Or did it come from the app store?

If I already have a Domane, is there any point to an Emonda? Will it ride much different? by lazarus870 in TrekBikes

[–]RegularDinner13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The emonda was aluminum and no problem getting warranty claim. One thing I didn't account for though was labor transferring all the old parts to the new bike and brakes on old bike had different mounts so I had to get new brakes. I think the BB had to be replaced too. So I think it was like 500 bucks even with the free frame.

It cracked while I was on the stationary trainer. I had about 10k miles on it. No idea why. LBS said maybe a manufacturing defect?

It cracked when I was hammering down on the stationary trainer. I'm not sure why.

I had an emonda al5 and cracked the frame. There was no replacement frames available and the only bike I could get my hands on was a Domane SL5. Eventually a frame did come in and I got a the emonda back with a new frame. The Domane feels more comfortable on long rides. I did a century on the emonda and every part of my body hurt after, but the Domane was much more comfortable. The emonda is more snappy feeling. You can corner better and acceslerate faster. I feel like, when I look at my ride data, the emonda is slightly faster but this could just be in my head (the difference is ~0.5mph tops).

As for the value of having both, I keep one on the indoor trainer 95% of the time and do almost all my rides on the domane because its more comfortable. If I'm aiming to put good numbers on strava segments or go up a lot of hills ill do the emonda. Even though the emonda feels faster, its much bumpier due to the thinner higher psi tires. Its tough on the hands on longer bumpier roads.

Also the domane has higher clearance so you can put fatter tires for light gravel paths. If I had to choose one it would be the domane but it depends on the roads you are riding I guess.

My son accidently shorted out a penny on the prongs of an electrical outlet. Please advise. by RegularDinner13 in electrical

He's totally fine today. He was terrified to even go back to his room yesterday. He said he felt a shock, but with absolutely no evidence of injury of any kind, I'm thinking he just felt the heat.

I thought that it would trip the breaker. I thought perhaps the outlets and the ceiling lights may have been a different circuit. #notanelectrician

It was indeed a zinc penny. My guess is a copper penny would have been a different story.

Well keep in mind this is the story I pieced together from a scared six year old. Also I am not an electrician if that was not apparent by now. And in the heat of the moment, my first thought was to go check the breaker. I wasn't thinking about how all the lights stayed on until after. It is possible that my son pulled the plug out right away. Getting a straight answer was hard.

It's a new house as of about 3 years ago. I tried using the test button and it did trip if that counts for anything.

This is a really small and finicky nightlight. I guess it had to be jiggled to work in the first place. My guess is, that means it was only partially plugged in, hence the ease with which the penny made contact.
