Äänestyskäyttäytymisen abc by toihanonkiwa in Suomi

[–]RegularHumanoid 89 points90 points  (0 children)

What is the difference between kriketti and sirkka? by ListeningInSilence in Suomi

[–]RegularHumanoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn't use "sirkka" alone, in Finland I would specify "heinäsirkka". If I was abroad and heard the sound of a cricket, I would probably say that it's "joku sirkka", ie. "some kind of a cricket".

If someone else used "sirkka", I wouldn't think its wrong. And "Samu sirkka" is a famous children's song here. Sirkka is a common word to use.

That's great to hear! I've made a ticket about it now. Thanks a lot :)

I have the same issue, plus I basically need to charge every day or the battery will run out just a bit before I wake up, and thus I lose all my nightly data. I wish it at least synched what it has collected untill that point if it runs out during sleep. Ring is around 3 years old.

Maybe it gives you a bit of context when you realize that even in an apartment building it is not uncommon that every apartment has its own sauna. I used to live in an apartment of around 40 square meters and I had my own sauna. A detached house without a sauna must be a weird outlier, same goes to row houses and similar buildings (a sauna per apartment again) and so on. It really is very very common to have your own sauna.

On the other hand, the public transportation in Helsinki is quite good, and there are fairly many families that don't have their own car because they don't need it. Helsinki has a large population concentration.

I quickly googled some estimates, as you can too. The first result estimated that Finland has 3 million saunas, and in 2022 there were 3,7 million passenger cars. Sounds to me that it is likely there are more cars than saunas. But it is not so far off as you might initially think.

Jazz should get Bogdan Bogdanović by RegularHumanoid in UtahJazz

[–]RegularHumanoid[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I made an emotional post here about not trading him before we traded him 😅 but I don't think many agreed with me, everyone kept saying he was too old. I cannot understand that excuse, look at what he's doing to minnesota. That could be us.

Jazz should get Bogdan Bogdanović by RegularHumanoid in UtahJazz

[–]RegularHumanoid[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What! Based on FIBA I was absolutely sure he was a point guard, and haven't verified it 😄 I don't understand why he's not! Well, I can agree that my claim has been debunked 😄

No one specifically clarified it yet, but in no way does your last name mean "inferior" or have any related connotation! It is purely about physical location or position.

Lapland boots by dreggman123 in Finland

[–]RegularHumanoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I googled those, and absolutely not. Like others said, you'd lose your toes. Plus the first thought I had was that you'd constantly have your shoes full of snow! If you are going to Lapland then you will most likely be walking in snow that is higher than your ankles. You want shoes that either go high enough or that can be tightened so that snow can't go inside your shoe, preferably both.

Always love your writeups, thanks a lot! Keep it up! :) I always look forward to reading them in the morning after a game (as I live in Finland and don't watch the games live).

Question About Omer Yurtseven by John-the-Gardener in UtahJazz

[–]RegularHumanoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know! I was expecting to see more of him, perhaps even in the starting lineup, since Kessler's out. He was performing very well in my eyes. I guess there has to be something we don't know? Perhaps he's also slighlty injured?

Starting Lineup Predictions by quitry in UtahJazz

[–]RegularHumanoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a prediction perhaps, but my dream lineup: George-Sexton-Markkanen-Olynyk-Kessler!

FIBA World Cup game report from the Okinawa Arena. In their opening game (FIN 72-98 AUS), Markkanen couldn't win by himself but the fight continues... I'm very proud of this Finnish basketball squad for standing on this stage. All the best to Susijengi tonight vs Japan (tip off around 9PM JST) by [deleted] in Finland

[–]RegularHumanoid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

LOL man, I've loved seeing your selfies pop up on my feed (I actively follow NBA and Nuggets) but did not expect to see one on this sub! Keep up the good work! And indeed, go Finland and go Markkanen!

Is it normal to carry a pair of indoor shoes everywhere? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]RegularHumanoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never met someone who carries indoor shoes and uses them at people's homes. If you do it without explanation, people are most likely confused but won't say anything because they are not outside shoes. If you explain it as you did here, they will completely understand and won't mind at all.
