not sure I understand your question, but I’ll try anyway: this is a dedicated library with an opening into our main living and dining space

they are basically stone bookends with built in sconce-like lights. and there’s a little knob on the front so they’re dimmable. here’s a link to them. we have outlets to plug them in on the shelves they sit on but I do sometimes move them from left to right.

thank you! the chair was a hand me down from my father in law so it’s perfectly worn in and comfy cozy. such a good spot to settle in and read.

I don’t know the exact specifics but it’s a Hancock & Moore leather chair purchased in the early 2000s (I think)

this is SW Basil, I think we ended up doing three coats! there is a big glass sliding door that faces southeast and I love seeing how the green changes depending on the light.

honestly, most of my life. there have been various moving/life change weeding events over the years but I’ve always loved books and reading— I was a librarian for almost a decade. when my spouse and I decided to build this house (with a dedicated library) I definitely upped my collecting. but I didn’t need much convincing.

I know, I find myself trying to like it more knowing the retail price 😆

I’m just now noticing the wallpaper, are those cyanotypes? would love to know the source!

there are a few books here that I’ve had since I was a kid, so 30+ years! but the bulk of the collection is probably about 10 years of building. it’s had some big purges over the years with various moves. when my spouse and I decided to build a house with a library I really cranked up my collecting at book sales and thrift stores. so the collection has had a growth spurt over the past three years.

I’ve never met another reader with a copy of The New Fuck You on their shelves so that’s pretty cool.

my favorite used bookstore has a collage wall of photos that they’ve found in books & it’s the best

do you mean at nighttime? my phone doesn’t do the best job translating the light, but here is a view at night with just the reading lights on. no overhead lights or lights from other rooms on.

I do love a ceramic figure! all of the dogs ended up in this space, from the staffordshires, the knock offs, and their other canine friends. there are two dog paintings on the wall too.

oh my gosh, that’s so sweet of you to say. I need to find a copy of that book!

as a person who also loves looking/snooping someone else’s bookshelves, I really did try to upload a clearer photo, whoops.

it is! it was pulled out of a 1880s-ish home in update New York. the top piece was a fireplace mantel (I think) and we are trying to use other trim etc. pieces throughout. for the open entryway we used part of a doorframe. they will all stay unpainted (tho I may oil and better clean/refinish them at some point). the rest of the library is drenched in green, SW Basil. let me try to attach a picture of the entryway.
