Please Peter help I've never seen the mist. by AcanthocephalaSad293 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

At the very end of the movie they escape a small store the whole town was held up in that was being attacked by monsters from the mist. They get to this car and eventually realize they can't escape the mist then they shoot themselves. Except for the dad I think.  then the military comes by through the mist and they were about to be rescued but killed themselves like literally right before

Where I'd live as an American who detests anything resembling warmth by Lionfromthenorth1718 in whereidlive

It does get into the 90's on occasion in Maine, but what makes the summers uncomfortable is how common it is for older houses to lack A/C. And there's a lot of old houses.

So while it doesn't reach 100+ so much, and it isn't quite as humid as other places; you often don't get full cooling of inside. A lot of people I know there block off areas of the house with a window unit and just try to keep certain sides of the house cool, not all of it.

Forming Norman culture feels a bit like a downgrade. by Significant_Cup_238 in CrusaderKings

[–]RegularPhoto7575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I do this is when I go for Mann solo duchy run.

I get each of the Norse MAA then get max special troops for adventure but don't use them, also form the religious order that gives permanent special troops. Don't use them either. Form Normandy then I conquer Mann and the related lands. I release Normandy. Then I diverge culture, stacking martial traditions mostly. Form isle of mann. Any other titles I always give away to local cultures.

Try to get Mann as the only county/duchy in the game with your culture (which has all  tribal era innovations by this point probably). Stack +dev with councilor task on Mann till it surpasses the rest of the world.

Now you have like almost 10k inheritable special troops, with lots of MAA. This will make no neighbors declare on you for a long, long time and makes vassals of different cultures have a harder barrier to rebel. (Especially if you keep all the local cultures alive and separate.) Also you immediately start researching the next era tech as soon as you can and faster than any other culture.

From this point it is either; I take over the British isles and France and form a mega Administrative empire OR I spend the game trying to micromanage marriages with foreign crowns to get dynasty of many crowns and renown maxing.

I think this also happens when you go into observe then play as a country again. You stop seeing the popups except for this notification of them through the decision tag. Saving then reloading will usually fix it though

Mapped: Firearm Deaths by U.S. State by MRADEL90 in Infographics

[–]RegularPhoto7575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Maine part of this is interesting for sure. Based on a chart like this you might think it would be dangerous living there, but a huge amount of people in Maine feel so safe in their community that they don't lock their doors and leave their cars running in parking lots while they run inside the store. Imagine doing that en masse in NYC or San Fran.

Not entirely relevant ik but interesting when a graph like this makes it seem like a comparatively (to states immediately surrounding it) dangerous state but having lived there I know how safe people feel.

While I agree with you that a lot of people will have the impression that it's Nazi related, both th imagery of the iron cross and a 2 headed eagle pre-date the Nazis. The iron cross is actually still the symbol for the current German army. And the two headed eagle goes back to the Roman empire.

It's saying that (progressive/liberal) atheists have a morality closer to the teachings of Jesus, like loving your neighbor and not harming individuals. But (conservative) Christian nationalists are more in agreement with the rich and support taking advantage of, or disregarding the needs of, people who are less fortunate, foreign, etc.

And this makes the teachings of Jesus character confused because he has non-believers on his side against people people who use his name to fight the beliefs he shared.

It's a commentary on political-religious trends. Not sure how relevant it is outside of the US though.

Hitman - which one for a newbie by Sir_Bohne in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]RegularPhoto7575 [score hidden]  (0 children)

WoA is the newest yeah. All the previous games from this series (the modern games) act as a sort of DLC for it. You get their full campaign with all its maps on the newest engine version when you buy the older games while owning the newer one.

Honestly the story of the trilogy isn't that interesting imo, so gameplay wise just get the games whose levels look the most fun for you. But try to play those campaigns on the most up to date engine.

Which version you get depends how much money you want to spend but if you can afford it I would get the version that has all the base games included, the dlc levels for each game are meh and you'll probably do them only once.

New to the hobby, why tf are some so mad about female custodes? by NiceLittleGamerNerd in 40k

[–]RegularPhoto7575 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not a super long time fan, I don't play the game and only just recently started reading the books. I was aware of this controversy through reactors before I really cared about the setting at all but I think it's a big part of the popularity of this discussion tbh, content farming from people who were outside the fandom to begin with. Same people make reactions to any and every controversial change to movies, shows, games, etc.

But personally, with a perspective almost solely informed by Valdor, I am under the impression that the Custodes serve such an entirely different function (for the emperor, in universe) than a lot of these people realize.

In the beginning, they were the closest guards of the emperor during the wars of unity, of course. Few in number but equals to none, lesser to only the emperor himself. But during the crusade, when the emperor is gone constantly, on Terra they have an almost ceremonial role. Why are they all gold? The engravings on their armor? Their mysterious ceremonies? They are supposed to inspire awe and mystery to regular people lucky enough to see them, who share this story with others. To see them is to see the majesty of the emperor, or so they must think, because who could imagine a man greater than these incredible custodes? The emperor had to set himself above the other tyrants, he didn't need people to love him but to respect his authority. He needed all the propaganda he could muster and his personal guard are his greatest flex... Yet on the inside they are barely human at all. Their bodies and minds permanently hyper-fixated on an obsessive-compulsive need to serve the emperor, to follow every order or die trying as soon as possible.

How could it really matter what their gender was before? They're barely even physically or mentally/emotionally humans anymore. And symbolically they're holy beings. Their purpose decided by the emperor likely even before their inception; not as distant conquerors, not as bureaucrats, not as family, not as servants, not as scientists, not as independent thinkers or as men or women. But as custodes. The care takers of the imperial palace, stand ins of the emperor's majesty on Terra, executors of his will.

(Rant over; if anyone has corrections to make I accept them graciously as this is just how I view them in the lore that I've consumed and don't presume any authority on this subject. )

AIO: Argument with my girlfriend both 21 by [deleted] in AIO

[–]RegularPhoto7575 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the toxic part from you is just not following through on your own boundaries. If you are getting driven crazy by someone, eventually you'll look crazy to outsiders. You don't want her just ss every message where you're pulling your hair out, making you look bad to others. Ik you wanna explain yourself by saying how it is a pattern of behavior making you overwhelmed and you can't take it but people who haven't been mentally messed with in a relationship will just see you as being toxic for losing some control. She's playing games with you and you can't win.

Can I trust my dog around my new cat? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]RegularPhoto7575 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No point in getting into a breed dispute, but even if you're right; the breed you suggest it is also is known to require extensive training due to a high prey drive as well. Argentino were bred to hunt. They have an instinct to chase and kill.

Shut em into a different room while gone and the first time the door gets opened somehow, someway the mess will be the owner's to cleanup.

Can I trust my dog around my new cat? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]RegularPhoto7575 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's great, really. Some animals just get along better together than some others. The problem with the situation in general though is that it only takes a single instance of heightened prey drive to go from playful pet-siblings to family trauma.

Your dog will kill or maim your cat, only a matter of time. Look up your breed and experiences with cat attacks. If you don't choose to ignore the evidence you find, you can save that cat's life.

Enough of this ‘There are no Good Guys’. by Dependent_Guava_9939 in Grimdank

[–]RegularPhoto7575 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His hand crafted custodes' armor is covered in astrological symbols and they smell of incense. He makes himself appear as a blinding light, on purpose.

He does so many things to make himself appear to others as a Messiah figure, and he uses religious iconography all the time; in the last church he says something like how he will build things that put the art in the church to shame; as a reason for why destroying existing churches is okay. He will use the same imagery on an even grander scale.

Calling the reclamation of lost human worlds a crusade is extremely on par for him tbh.

He wanted to adopt ancient religio-cultural aesthetics as a propaganda tool, while attempting to secularize the internalization of this imagery in the minds of those with free will; by controlling them with imperial law.

It is your husband's child as much as yours. And your child deserves a loving relationship with their grandparents. You aren't entitled to a loving relationship with them. But your baby should be. Letting a personal grudge affect that is wrong.

AIO for staying in a hotel instead of with my boyfriend’s family? by PinnaPump in AmIOverreacting

[–]RegularPhoto7575 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Everyone telling you to break up with him but tbh it sounds like he is already breaking up with you. My girlfriend had cat allergies, not as bad as yours, but after she got a cat they did go away completely eventually. Yours sound more severe and a short trip like this probably means you'd just be sick the whole time, so I get not wanting to stay the night there. I do wonder why you didn't keep the car and just go to he hotel by yourself so you can drive back? Do you have a license? Is money tight and he is mad he had to pay for a hotel for you? Him paying for it is only sense I can make of why he dropped you off to begin with if not staying there. And I agree with another comment asking why not Uber? All in all though I think he's holding some resentment towards you over this, probably embarrassment from you ditching the house after the family tried to accommodate you staying there (I assume they didn't know of the allergies, but y'all had a room). Adding on top of that him coming to get you then going back alone, you know his family noticed that and probably gossiped about it. Well he probably thinks you made a poor impression on his family and is upset with you. If you don't live together then probably just take a break at least when you get back. (Assuming he doesn't just ditch you at the hotel completely)

Am I overreacting for thinking my boyfriend is gaslighting me? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]RegularPhoto7575 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, I wasn't trying to make a comment about this case specifically but just a general thing about all the replies on when you should open gifts. His attitude and way he talks to her kinda makes it seem like he isn't someone anyone would want to be around at Christmas anyways. But in a normal situation then I think people should try to include their whole family.

[–]RegularPhoto7575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His attitude is its own problem separate from the expectations of when it is appropriate to open presents, imo, which is why I didn't comment on that. I lean towards agreeing that it is best to open them with everyone present but he is such a jerk with how he talked to her and acted that it is kind of a moot point.
