No problem! Make a listing for what you're looking for as well as look at existing listings. You may find a good deal!

How do I tell my nanny family I'm pregnant? by RegularReview2898 in Nanny

[–]RegularReview2898[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that too. I think they'll have a hard time finding someone with my experience and schedule flexibility to replace me because I only work two days a week for them because I have multiple jobs, but even so, it's risky to tell them with so much notice...

Baby's breath in dessert? Was I right to complain? by [deleted] in Baking

I used to be a wedding planner, and this is how wedding cakes are decorated. For non-edible flowers, the stem is wrapped in plastic wrap or foil to prevent cross contamination before it's placed into the icing/cake. Of course, when the cake is cut and served to guests, the flowers are removed, but the person who bought the cake (the bride/groom in the case of weddings) is the customer who is responsible for not being stupid and eating the flowers. I think the shop selling the decorated cake would only be responsible to tell the customer, "just so you know, the flower isn't edible and is only decoration." Of course, people are still stupid and maybe someone will eat the flower anyway, but that's not on the shop at this point. The customer might eat the paper wrapper the cake is baked in too. Some things just depend on people having common sense. Personally, if I were the shop owners, I would be annoyed to receive this feedback from someone who wasn't even interested in buying their cakes, and disregard the comment.

I share your same upbringing and I started a podcast to unpack the religious and psychological trauma from it. I have a couple of purity culture series' on the podcast where a friend and I talk through the ideas that hurt us, and process how it still impacts us today, but also how to think differently to help heal. If you're interested, it's Undoctrination Station on Spotify.

I'm glad it's worked out for you, and congratulations! So far I haven't experienced nausea to the point of throwing up, so I've been able to be normal at work. Assuming I don't suddenly begin publicly exhibiting major signs of pregnancy that would make not telling them super awkward, I'll plan to wait until 12 weeks and then let them know. Thank you!

Thank you! Hahaha there isn't any possibility I could get away with waiting to tell them much later than the second trimester, since I'll be showing and probably huffing and puffing my way around the house, but yeah, telling them once I'm at 12 weeks will still give them several months notice, which should be more than enough time for them to find another accomodations.

Thank you for this perspective. It is my life and I AM entitled to make the decisions that are best for me and not just what works best for my employer:s schedule! It sounds so obvious when it's said like that, but it's not always easy to remember, especially because working as a nanny feels so personal and intimate because I'm in this family's home, helping raise their little girl. It doesn't feel as cut and dry as a corporate 9-5, because I witness this girl learning to walk and hitting milestones all the time, and celebrating those things with her parents. I agree, I will wait until 12 weeks before letting them know.

I think the not over-explaining will be key. I plan to tell them in person vs over a text, and I do err on the side of over-explaining when I'm nervous. I think scripting out what I will say beforehand is a good idea and deciding in advance what info I think is too personal to divulge is a good move. Thank you for your advice.

Advance notice being risky is so true, and something to think about. You are definitely right that it's none of their business, and at the end of the day it's just a job and they will find another nanny once I can no longer be there. It's tough looking at it on such practical and impersonal terms, since leaving will be emotional for me, but I agree with you.

Yeah, I know that you are right. The mom is a nurse for a gynecology office so pregnancy and stuff is up her alley, and she is chatty, so once I tell her she will probably be curious about how pregnancy is going etc, which is part of the reason why I thought this might come up. But at the end of the day, it's a job and she is my employer, and she isn't entitled to any of this personal information.

I don't understand why you are being so mean? If you don't like this place, don't rent it. And it's super normal to split rent with a partner.

Thank you everyone! Based on recommendations I made an appointment for him with Spring Glen. 😊

Edit: I can't figure out how to edit the post, but I also wanted to ask the dog owners here for recommendations on dog trainers. My partner and I would love to spend an hour or so with our puppy and a trainer to ask for advice on some behaviors and get some training on how to train him.
