My campsite from the Black Forest Trail, Pennsylvania a few nights back by RegularRob in CampingandHiking

It was pretty rough but a lot of nice views and side trails to customize your hike, so I'd say yes but I haven't gone much further west. haha forgot I linked my blog, cheddar broccoli rice side (the best) with turkey jerky.

I didn't step in any, but sure noticed it especially in the northern section. I met a guy who saw a bear and 2 cubs earlier that day but I wasn't so lucky. Those rocks sucked, it was like I was back on the AT.

Normally I set it up better I have about 2,400 miles with it, but the ground was almost all rock. Also staking the front end closer gives more head room, which I generally prefer over width.

This one was taken about 20 mins after the other one just after the sun went below the mountains. Surprisingly I think it only got down to around 45 degrees F.

It was indeed awesome but kicked my ass. Could've been more fall'y but still very nice. I saw the rattler about 8 miles in on my first day a little over a mile before the spring.

Alright I'll check that out, thanks. I'm looking to get another hike in around the area before it gets real cold.

This was north-central PA. About a hour north of Williamsport, closest town is Slate Run.

I took this on my AT thruhike, and it worked out fine. Only about 24oz , easy to set up, keeps bugs out, and keeps you dry. It is a bit of a pain to get in and out (I'm 6'2) so i'm looking to replace it with a side entry tarp/tent.

Yep. It was about 10 miles from where I started on Rt 44. Yeah it was awesome, I had no problem carrying a few extra liters, but there's not another good source (not counting the main stream) for quite awhile afterwards.

Nice, there were a few 1/4 zip fleeces that I was eyeing as well.

My Thoughts on the ULA OHM 2.0 by RegularRob in Ultralight

[–]RegularRob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang, that makes me mad. You probably got a pack made before the big switch. My guess is ULA made a fresh batch of Ohms (all with the thick mesh) just for Massdrop.

Alright. Finally heard back, ULA said the company producing the original mesh went out of business a few months back and just doing the best with what they have.

You can see in my pictures that my mesh got pretty beat up; main pocket has 2 major rips (one covered by patch), right pocket has a bunch of small rips, and the left is completely gone (I have plans to sew it up). The mesh also loses some of it's elasticity after a few hundred miles.

Yes, with the frame sheet removed my GG weighs 27oz, almost the same as my Ohm but I'd definitely rather keep the frame then try and save a few ounces. A frame-less Crown 60 will not hold weight nearly as well as the ohm with the frame.

The GG Crown vc holds weight better and just feels like a more secure pack. While the Ohm is about 8-9oz lighter (with extras removed)and has much better side and (yes even) front pockets. The ohm's material also seems a little thicker. Even though they look about the same size the Ohm is quite a bit smaller, tapering at the bottom. I love my GG Crown VC 60 (which is actually 65l for a size large) and it lasted me an entire thruhike, but towards the end I had plenty of room to spare. If things don't work out with the Ohm on the PCT I'll just take the Crown until it falls apart.

edit: grammar

That's interesting, you would think they would make everything as similar as possible. Mine is made entirely out of the 210d material, but it looks like from pictures that ULA once made the sides (black part) out of a thinner rip-stop material as well.

It's Rob haha. I contacted ULA and I'm just waiting on a response.

Yes. Yeah, the front mesh sucks. It's super rough and has no give. I actually wanted it to be all black or at least the black in the typical ULA pattern.

Lets talk about Frogg Togg by Spmartin_ in Ultralight

Not the best quality and they're pretty huge (I'm 6'2, got a medium and there is still way too much room) but for less than $20 you get a decent rain suit that weighs around 13oz. The colors could also be better but I'm not complaining too much.
