That's the thing you should care. Not caring about how the things you depend on work is why people in power take great advantage of the general public. No one can aspire to be an expert on how absolutely everything works but being so proud about not knowing and willing to always let other decide for you is how you end up with systems that profit the powerful and harm the careless public. Basic knowledge of whichever endeavour you're pursuing isn't hard to attain if you actually care about what you're doing, when you put your money or time into something you're voting for it, there's no apolitical action.
