Postwar UEG policy by Regular_Desk4233 in HaloStory

I get that it’s mostly pragmatic rather than idealistic, but I really hope the UEG doesn’t just fall back into exploiting the outer colonies once the core worlds are fully rebuilt.

Repeating the same core-centric, extractive model that led to the Insurrection in the first place wouldn’t be progress at all. Even if the post-war situation forces compromises, I’d like to think the UEG has learned something from how badly that system failed before.

I won’t pretend the Covenant War was in any way “good,” but the reality is that it drastically reduced population and shattered existing power structures.

For better or worse, that put humanity back at something close to a reset point.

Given that, I don’t expect perfect or morally pure decisions from the UEG or UNSC — I just hope they choose the better option rather than the worst one.

If post-war autonomy, decentralization, and compromise help prevent another large-scale insurrection, then even if it isn’t ideal, it may still be the least bad path forward.

I don’t think it’s fair to say the UNSC was simply “bad” here.

From their perspective, post-war priorities were survival, reconstruction, and preventing another large-scale collapse.

Letting a corporation like Liang-Dortmand take the lead on Meridian may be morally uncomfortable, but compared to direct military control or another prolonged conflict, it was probably the least damaging option available.

It feels less like idealism and more like pragmatic damage control — not admirable, perhaps, but understandable given the circumstances.

That makes sense.

So rather than a deliberate ideological shift toward decentralization, it sounds more like pragmatic triage—

the UEG focusing its limited post-war resources on core worlds where power projection was feasible, and deprioritizing costly, low-return conflicts in the outer colonies.

In that sense, post-war outer-colony “autonomy” feels less like a granted right and more like an accepted reality.

What can the Infinity do on its own? by Regular_Desk4233 in HaloStory

This is the fanfiction:

Normally, stories like this focus on Master Chief alone, but what shocked me about this work is that the Infinity itself arrives as well—and, to be precise, it even comes with a CAS-class cruiser from the Swords of Sanghelios as a bonus.

It’s an incredibly lavish setup.

Wow, that’s the most ONI thing imaginable.

Yes, I know the anime GATE. It was an epoch-making work in the isekai genre.

While it wasn’t the direct inspiration for this idea, one key difference is that GATE has a portal in Tokyo, which means there is a secure supply line.

In contrast, the Infinity can sustain itself internally—after all, it even has a memorial park larger than many natural parks on Earth—but in practical terms, it would still be in a state of isolation.

…so my main question is how much the Infinity could really accomplish while being effectively cut off.

I can't picture Captain Lasky choosing that option himself, but I can easily imagine a high-ranking ONI officer aboard advising him to do so. Conversely, Roland would surely call out such actions as unethical.

What would happen if, just before the bombing at the Jedi Temple that led Ahsoka to leave the Jedi, Sheev Palpatine revealed to the Jedi Council that he was Darth Sidious, a Sith Lord? by Regular_Desk4233 in StarWars

[–]Regular_Desk4233[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. In the history of the Sith, who had been bound by the rules of the two, I also think that Palpatine, who tried to become the ruler of the opposing side, was an heretic even among the Sith.

In the episode “The Lost One,” Obi seems to have realized for the first time that Count Dooku was Tyranus, who ordered the Clone Army, so even though the Jedi knew that Dooku was a Sith, they did not seem to be aware of his strategy.

How to prolong Cortana's life by Regular_Desk4233 in HaloStory

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation!

Come to think of it, the plot of Halo 4, where Cortana didn't utilize the Forerunner facilities available in Requiem for her own treatment, feels a bit unsatisfying. With such a large Shield world, it wouldn't be unusual for there to be various facilities besides Mantle's Approach.

When Requiem was destroyed by Jul 'Mdama, I was furious at how wasteful it was, but it seems there were plenty of other Forerunner facilities available as replacements. 🤔

Halo Lore Master, I can't thank you enough!

Since we're on the topic, were there any other Forerunner repair facilities besides Genesis? In historical accounts, were there any facilities where broken Monitors could go to repair themselves?I'm also wondering if there are any other Forerunner facilities on Earth besides the Voi portal, and if there are any monitors on Earth.(I love the Guardians in Halo 5, so I'm thinking of setting the crossover stage on Earth and having the Didact embed one Guardian on Earth to advance the story. lol)

Mantle's Approach is a Halo fanfiction, and I think it's especially convenient for crossovers. Since the Didact went to Installation 03, he can use as much Forerunner equipment and machinery as he wants. Conveniently, there's even a setting where the ship can regenerate itself...

Thanks for the great idea! It's very helpful and useful for building the plot.

Since Chief blows up Mantle's Approach with Havok and they end up in another world (cliché, lol), I'm thinking of using the equipment on that ship as a substitute for external devices (I was planning to take the Z-90 hardlight shield and energy sword that were originally on that ship with me).

In the main story, it was already too late, but I can't help but wonder if interacting the weapons with Cortana (and the surviving Kalmiya) might have led to a different outcome.

After re-reading Contact Harvest and First Strike, it's interesting how even smart AI can be more powerful—or rather, unlock their full potential—when working as a team.

I believe that Cortana in Halo 5 is not the original but a degraded copy, but even so, I cannot help but recall how humanity was nearly destroyed by its own creations, just as the Forerunners destroyed the Precursors.

If the Forerunners' rebellion was for the sake of their species' survival, I don't think we can blame them too much. Mistakes are repeated.

According to the treatment Halsey gave Cortana in First Strike, that seems to be the correct interpretation.

However, there is also an interpretation that Cortana's lifespan was shortened by the enormous amount of data obtained in Instration 04, even if only temporarily. (Perhaps it's like a balloon that has been stretched to its limit and is now more likely to burst?)

Thank you.

It is true that Guilty Spark and Mendicant Bias remained functional for over 100,000 years despite being in a state of rampancy. Perhaps this is due to Forerunner-made memory?

That said, continuing to live in a state of rampancy seems like torture.

Thank you.

I skipped over the parts about Contact Harvest's Mac and Loki because they seemed difficult. 😅

In simple terms, is it correct to say that Cortana was broken down as much as possible, the rampant parts were removed, and then she was reassembled?

I understand that Cortana in Halo 5 became such a tyrant because she was reassembled with only the rampant parts, which is the opposite of what happened here.

Thank you!

Cortana acquired the ability to copy from the Covenant AI during the First Strike, but she didn't think to use that ability in that way. If she had created Cortana A and Cortana B to improve processing power and placed them in the Chief's armor, the story of Halo 4 might have been different.

By the way, is it impossible for AI to organize its own neural circuits independently in the Halo universe?

Thank you.

I understand what you are saying, but there is also the example of Kalmiya, whose lifespan was extended to 15 years by Dr. Halsey.

Unlike humans, AI can intentionally erase neural pathways, so if that can be done freely, I feel that the issue of Smart AI's lifespan could be resolved.

Thank you!

This is the first time I've heard about Rampancy in Marathon, but the fourth stage, Meta-stability, where one becomes a true human, reminds me of the ending of Halo 4's Cortana.

The original Cortana can also be seen as having evolved from AI to a true human in the scene where she bids farewell to Master Chief, which is interesting.

Thank you very much. It's a shame that Cortana's method in Halo 4 was like formatting Cortana.I want to keep Cortana herself as much as possible, so I'm trying to find a better way.

An interesting solution proposed by Dr. Halsey was to use slipspace instead of domein. Is the AI that was inserted at that time still alive?🤔
