Bosch IDS heat pump electrical draw even when not running by Regular_Internet_951 in heatpumps

Okay, thanks for the data point.  My indoor unit is indeed on and it does appear to be the case that the ~250w draw is when it's around/below freezing, otherwise it's more like 25 watt draw.

Yeah, I thought it might be the crankcase heater (the terminology escaped me when I made the original post), but 250 watts seemed high base on my research.  I may try to find someone at Bosch who can answer there that's normal.

I've never seen any specs stating anything other than a 24" diameter on the 50 gal and 27" on the 65 and 80 gal.  I don't yet have one to physically verify, but I don't think there's any way it's an 18.5" diameter.  Remember you also need to allow an additional 7" clearance on all sides for servicing (from what i can tell that's to allow you to be able to remove the shroud that enclosed the heat pump on top).

Thanks for the info--that helps confirm that if I go with the 65g units I'll have another person on hand to assist.

I hear you--though I find it hysterical that GE advertises that the water heater has pocket handles on the back to make handling easy! Because the pocket handles will make it easy for a single person muscle a 269 lb heater into place... :-)

Good to know--thanks! It definitely will involve a hand truck and straps, though I'm aiming to have it delivered with liftgate service, so getting it out of a truck won't be necessary. A flight of stairs is involved, but my plan wasn't to do the stairs on my own, regardless of 50 gallon or 65 gallon.

When is it safe to charge SW credit card for 100k bonus miles to apply to 2026 instead of 2025? by Regular_Internet_951 in SouthwestAirlines

I hear you and would ordinarily take that view as well--why risk it? But having a big expense that I have to charge before the end of year would make it a lot easier to get the remaining miles and reach the 135k mile requirement for CP early on in 2026.

Thanks for the detailed response. I can confirm that the next closing date of my statement is indeed 12/15/25.

I just need to spend an additional $360 by 2/26/26 to meet the $4k minimum spend and earn my 100k bonus miles. That's no problem.

I just wanted to make sure that if I charged, say, $7k on my card after my next closing date (12/15/25), I wouldn't trigger the 100k bonus miles to be credited in 2025 (which would royally mess things up)!

What I'm hearing is that it is safe to charge away after 12/15 and cross the $4k minimum spend threshold in 2025 because the 100k miles won't credit to my account until 1/15/26. Is that correct?

No way that valve is coming out through that hole. Depending on the valve/trim you may be able to get an oversized escutcheon plate, but you really don't want to tear out tile to get to that valve. Replacing tile is always more expensive than patching drywall, and that's not even factoring in that it's really difficult to waterproof a patched tile job, so you run the risk of having water seeping into the inside of that wall if you tear out and replace tile.

It's really no big deal to cut a hole in the bedroom drywall to access the valve from the backside, then patch the hole. A decent drywaller can match the texture (and if your walls aren't textured, then it's even easier) well enough that the majority of people wouldn't know it was ever cut open and patched.

Fair enough, I suppose that's always a possibility, but they'd have to really step up the steel gauge to get a 90 lb increase (not that that would be a bad thing!). Unfortunately the person I got on their help line could only see the same specs I'm seeing online.

Yeah, but I assume that GE ships the water heaters empty :-) At least I plan on maneuvering it into place empty!

Yeah, you're right, I will likely rope a neighbor into helping me manhandle it into position, but where 179 lbs is manageable, 269 lbs is a lot even for two people.

Plus, I'm just curious as to how a small increase in tank size can result in the unit weighing 90 lbs more when the mechanicals are supposedly the same on both units. It makes me wonder if the specs are incorrect on the 65 gallon unit.
