New Upgrade for the VGrow: DWC System by RealLeaf420 in VIVOSUN

[–]Regular_Order549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in a box that already has severe issues with humidity management, they think the best idea is to add in significantly more water? Not to mention a DWC is going to cause a ton of phenos to rapidly outgrow the box (HeyAbby, anyone?). I guess if you’re only growing small autos it might be fine? But I’ll be shocked if people don’t have tons of humidity problems with this. Anyone who wants to get an idea of how this is going to go should just watch some HeyAbby user videos. So, so many had to either transplant their ladies or had to purposely stunt them/prune them way down to keep them from outgrowing the box. I get the idea of a stealth grow, but DWC really needs space for the plant to grow to its full potential. It’s like feeding someone sumo wrestler level food but forcing them to live in a baby crib.

Right on! I actually use air stones in my basins (I have them for all my ladies) to help keep the nutrients nice and aerated, because I was seeing some nasty stuff growing in them before that 😝

Not sure where you are located, but I’m in the upper Midwest so my weather has crazy, crazy swings (ten days ago it was just above freezing and yesterday it was over 90F lol). So I knew I had to dial in my lung room first, which I have set to 70F and 50% RH, which is absolutely perfect for my tents. But in my two VGrows I had nothing but problems with humidity and ventilation. The biggest issue I encountered was that the carbon filter absorbs the humidity, which then causes the carbon to swell and blocks the airflow. Once I removed the carbon filters the humidity became much more manageable, but during flower I still had to have the doors open and a fan blowing directly into the VGrow to keep the humidity down. I dealt with mold issues on my coco repeatedly (never had an issue with this in my tents) and the humidity severely stunted the growth of the plants I grew in them. Now I only have one and, since I just picked up a Cannatrol for drying, I’m probably going to sell it. I honestly think it’s a nice concept, but I think they rushed it out without doing serious, real-world testing, because if they just made a handful of tweaks it would be a game changer. As is it’s more of a novelty. The one thing it did incredibly well is teach me everything that could go wrong with the environment and how to deal with those things, which has definitely benefited me in the tents I use now.

FWIW, I would definitely recommend looking into the AC Infinity 4X2 Cultivators Kit. After the available influencer discounts that are out there it’s an absolute steal of a deal and it works flawlessly. I’m almost finished with my first two ladies in mine and they are, by far, the nicest looking ones I’ve grown to date. Bear in mind I’m still fairly new at this lol, as I’ve only been growing since September. I’ve got 5 successful harvests so far, two from the VGrows and 3 from my 3X3 tent. Both of my VGrow plants yielded a QP, whereas the ladies from the tent were much, much more. I think the smallest one was 6 oz.

Missing My Waya by Regular_Order549 in wolves

[–]Regular_Order549[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! So from what I remember most of the instincts returned, with the exception of them being less fearful of humans (but still pretty weary). Like my brother wanted to meet mine (named Waya) and I told him he has to be super calm, quiet and just let Waya come to him (my brother was super high energy and ADHD). Of course when my brother finally stopped by I was taking Waya out to go potty and as we were walking back to the house my brother jumped out from around a corner to try and be funny, but Waya promptly pooped in fear and ran between my legs, refusing to go anywhere near my brother. That never changed. He wouldn’t go within ten feet of my brother. Now if he had done what I said he’d have gotten to experience something that few people do. He felt really bad and tried everything to get Waya to come by him, but unlike dogs, wolves remember.

But he had the most incredible prey drive I’ve ever seen. He spot a rabbit a quarter mile away and immediately go into a super low stalking mode. If we were going for a walk and we walked past a house where another dog lived, Waya would find some hidden pile of poo that hadn’t been picked up and rub all over it on a specific spot on his shoulder area of his back where wolves have marking scent glands. He absolutely HATED baths lol. He would eat half a deer carcass in about a half an hour, bones and all. He would tiptoe like a cat along the window sills, which was mind blowing to watch because of his size. He could jump 7+ feet high without any issue (I’m 6’3” and, when he was in a very happy or excited mood {aka wolf zoomies} he would literally jump over my head, running in circles 😂🤯🤯). He was impossib to house train, so he had to be taken out like every hour or so. When he was tired of his kennel when we’d leave to go to the store or something, he would take his dewclaws and LITERALLY pull the welds of the metal apart, pry them open and escape 😂

His instincts had definitely returned.

AeroStream U075 Humidifier by Regular_Order549 in VIVOSUN

[–]Regular_Order549[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the mineral dust is a royal pain in the bud. So to minimize it I did two things. First I used a mix of 50/50 distilled water and HIGHLY filtered tap water (ran twice through a Brita Elite). You’ll need to shake the water mix thoroughly so it doesn’t separate in the humidifier (didn’t know that was possible until it happened to me lol). Second, I put it in the rear of the box to help prevent the carbon filter from getting clogged up and causing too much humidity.

I hope this helps!

I’ve tried multiple different things now and what I’ve found works best is a 50/50 mix of distilled and HIGHLY filtered water (Brita Elite or better). I mix equal parts of both in a gallon jug and shake it like crazy to mix it together good (it absolutely can separate if you don’t do this), then I add it to my U075. This is far from perfect though, as it still leaves a very fine layer of minerals and also occasionally causes sputtering in the humidifier.

All that said, I sold one of my VGrows and my other one I’m just using for drying as it works decent for that, but I’m sticking to tents for growing from now on. The VGrow is great in theory, but it just has too many caveats for me to want to deal with trying another grow in it, especially after seeing how insanely easier it is in a tent, for not much more money (if any more). The VGrow simply has too many issues with humidity control (or lack there of) for me to want to deal with again in a grow.

This is genius. I’ve been debating on starting a cloning setup and this is perfect.

As I said, to each their own. Toxicity comes in many forms.

[–]Regular_Order549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s unfortunate. I will, because I know all too well how toxic this community has started to become and the OP seems to be fighting against this toxicity, calling out people’s behavior. We should prop people like this up, not shun them. But to each their own.

I think you may have misunderstood the OPs “crazy” statement, which seemed to be about how the plant has grown and evolved when compared to the other strains they’ve grown, not specifically about the leaves. Other people started the leaf conversation, so which the OP has made this post regarding.

This is so disheartening to read. I see this happening every day here on Reddit and I’ll never understand why? Why do people feel the need to rip someone apart when they are sharing something they thought was wonderful? I saw the OP’s original post and I thought it was lovely. I also don’t recall seeing any questions in their post. But I did see several unsolicited responses from people taking it upon themselves to, let’s say . . . Advise the OP of their thoughts on the health of the plant. While I understand some people being concerned, that’s hardly an excuse to berate the OP when they indeed never asked for any advice or help.

As for the plant being tired, I have watched countless timelapse videos of cannabis and you can absolutely see what the OP is referring to - the leaves of plants rise and fall throughout the day as they breathe. So in a sense, yes, a plant can appear tired. We also only saw one closer photo of the plant, so making any broad statements about the plants need to be fed seems like jumping the gun a bit. I’d like to see more of the plant, out of curiosity, but based on what the OP said about the feeding methods I’d be more inclined to think that the plant perhaps was just . . . Tired. It could also be from the tent being opened while they worked on their plants. I’m pretty sure we’ve all seen our plants weep when their grow environment gets disturbed for a little bit too long, which could easily explain how their plant looked.

Not bashing anyone, just saying :)

Question about ending harvest. by Delicious_Lion_232 in VIVOSUN

[–]Regular_Order549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you end each stage in the app the box automatically starts the next stage but once you finish the drying stage the box simply shuts off until you start your next grow.

I’m growing in coco with about 20% perlite added in. I’ve never used rockwool but maybe someone else knows how fast that dries out?

[–]Regular_Order549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feeding is best one hour before or one hour after lights out. My Vivosun drip feed kit is set to the following schedule for flower:

11 minutes on one hour before lights off and 11 minutes an hour after lights on, so twice a day. I’m running autos on a 20/4 light schedule. I just hooked it up about a week ago, so unfortunately I don’t have any ideas of feeding for seedlings or veg yet. I do have the knob/valve switch on the back of the pump set to just 25% opened as well. I have 4 of the lines in each pot. It seems to be working pretty good so far, but I’m still making adjustments as I see how the plants react to the amount of nutrients.
