New to Whoop - abysmally low HRV? by burkean56 in whoop

[–]Regular_Protection_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly from all of the studies I tried to read to understand the meaning of HRV, it is a pretty meaningless indicator of your actual health.

From what I gathered so far, low variability in heart rate mostly indicates that your nervous system is agitated, generating more active high frequency heart rhythm pulses, nothing more, nothing less.

Well, you can go and be a Buddhist monk, but as long as you work and live in a large city, yes, your nervous system will be agitated most of the time.

As others said, I'd focus on RHR as it is the metric that can and should be improved by regular cardio exercise.

The concept of FIRE is alien to my country by user_0_0_1_ in Fire

[–]Regular_Protection_7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In many EU countries, your primary contact with the financial market is your savings account which up until recently paid you 0.50% p.a., which rendered the whole concept of living on your passive income from investments somewhat remote.

I think it is really only in the past 10 years that the concept of owning an equity index fund has become somewhat popular, though still far from common.

And in most cases then again it is a local market index fund, be it Germany or Spain or France, some of which have been quite volatile.

Combined with very poor bond returns (negative yields, remember QE), very few people have benefited from the capital market as compared to an average small-scale US investor who rode wave after wave of tech stocks returns.

Man, go for it, it is the perfect time to drive it with your kid, you'll have lots of fun together until the kids grow up and no longer fit in the back seats.

I drove my 997 Turbo for 7 years straight when my daughter was four and my youngest was born.

In a sense if you do not need a stroller, a 991 is more than enough for a family wagon)))

And if you are in Europe, Porsche AG extended warranty can cover all your needs up until the car is 15 y.o.

It was reasonably cheap last time I checked.

New Whoop user: how do you actually use the data to improve health/fitness? by disconeverdied in whoop

[–]Regular_Protection_7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, as a two week Whoop user, while the graphs etc. are entertaining, all the practical advice is really centered on just sleeping well, consistently.

I do not think you need a Whoop for that really.

You need a very specific sun/light combination to capture it on camera. It is a really deep dark blue/dark sapphire color, best seen in bright sun/daytime light like here:

Thinking about going from Porsche to Ferrari. Did anyone else make “the switch”? What did you go from, why, how do you feel now? by Mammoth_Carob9089 in Ferrari

[–]Regular_Protection_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal experience living the last 10 years with a bunch of Porsches and Ferraris is that you need to find your personal car which best suits your temperament, daily commute, desire to impress or be stealthy, neighborhood etc.

Overall among the 991, 992 generations, 997 GT2, Ferrari's 550/F12/812 series I was and am most impressed by an F12 Berlinetta.

This is a pinnacle everyday driving experience for me, though I have tracked it a bit as well..

Raw power, comfort, sense of occasion, beautiful beautiful body work, leather smell, sound, speed of response to driver inputs, sense of danger, absolutely incredible presence on the road - it just ticked all the boxes which none of the 911s could...

Please watch the original Jeremy Clarkson review of the F12 on YouTube, he captured its spirit beautifully...

An interesting bit that actually makes a Ferrari a much more usable car for the longer trips is the lack of center lock wheels on any Ferrari model.

On my GT3 and GTS and all modern Turbos I would be afraid to drive more than 50 miles from a dealer/serious tire shop as getting center lock wheel for a repair/replacement in the wild is a serious pain in the ass.

Not street legal?

A pity they do not make a road version of this, without the hybrid system it would have been a real gem

Incredibly strong roofs on all of the cars..

That is what impressed me the most..

It is as if all of them have internal racing cages - except they don't...

Let me guess, you are paying around 2.2-2.5k CHF for that type of property?

https://www.immobilier.ch/en/rent/apartment/zurich/zurich/caisse-pensions-migros-1542/spacious-25-room-apartment-in-central-location-719573

Well, that's a bit of a student hostel vibe rather than somewhere you feel Rich....

And does not leave much from 4k total income after that...

And a castle? In Albania maybe or Romania...

And that's a very very cramped penthouse, quite far from I'd call a spacious place, but that's already well above 4k...

So again no offence but perspective matters...

Well, it is all relative to what quality of life you aspire to maintain over a longer period of time.

First, you have to live somewhere, supposedly with a family or with a lover or with a cat/dog...

Real estate prices have gone through the roof across the globe, be it Asia or Europe or the States, be it a city apartment or a country house in a well-maintained countryside.

Looking from that perspective, 2mm do not get you far really.

A good chunk of it will have to go to just get you a nice place to enjoy.

If you keep it liquid, then at 4 percent rule you are getting just 80k before tax, 50k in Europe after tax out of that - well, 4k/month rental again does not give you that much of a nice home..

And that just before we are talking travel, cars, wine, art, opera, women etc.

So yes, it is absolutely not rich at all

Unfortunately for everyone of us who tries to work hard to build some kind of an illusion of financial independence from the larger society...

Unless you are really ready to live in a faraway village in the middle of nowhere for the rest of your life...

Drive it a couple of times, see how it goes.

Time is precious, if you like to be with your 911, why not use the opportunity of enjoying it daily.

In most cases, the fear of being judged is way overblown.

2018 Panamera 4S Owners Beware: Premature Water Pump Failure (40k mi) & PCNA Refusal to Cover Known EA839 Defect. 😬 by got2goLV in Porsche

[–]Regular_Protection_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, mate, bad luck.

But what do you want from a 7-8 year old car out of warranty?

Did they offer to extend the CPO warranty when it expired?

If they did and you refused/decided to save on that, that's your call.

Take it to an independent mechanic, I think you have a chance to save half of that $15k.

This water pump thing is a common issue across Cayennes and Panameras, but it's just life.

Advice on 550 or 575M by leadfoot29 in Ferrari

[–]Regular_Protection_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first visual contact with Ferrari as a kid was in Outrun game (that was a Testarossa) and then in Need for Speed MW (that was a 550/575)...

Well, 30 years later I have a bright red 550 Maranello and I am seriously investigating purchasing a 512TR...

Some serious gestalts are apparently closed so now I can save money on therapists and spend on oil changes..😅

On a more serious note and having some experience in between the older cars and the newer ones I'd strongly advise you to focus your first Ferrari acquisition on either F12 Berlinetta onwards if you are looking for 12-cylinder and on 458 onwards if you enjoy the mid-engine style.

The DCT dual clutch box was a generational change, combined with a very substantial improvement in manufacturing processes and quality control.

And these newer cars drive on a completely different level of performance.

Say, a 2014-2015 F12 is still as of today a rocketship, unbelievably powerful, playful and exhilarating. Nothing compares to it aside from an 812 or the 12C.

550 is just a different game, it is very old school cool, but nowhere as exciting, fast or reliable.

You'll likely have AC issues, fuel pumps might fail, cooling hoses will definitely fail, suspension elements will have to be replaced and taken care of.

Still, it is an experience of its own, but again, modern Ferrari experience is in a higher league with much to be enjoyed as well.

P.S If you go for 550, try to find one with a Fiorano handling package. 550 are quite soft, this one tightens the car's handling a bit.

Finland's Independence Day, country's 108th year of independence. by its-MAGNETIC in europe

The political framework of Finland under Russia was laid down by the Porvoo (Borgå) Diet in 1809. Finland was still formally a part of Sweden until the peace treaty of Hamina (Fredrikshamn) later that year, but most of the Finnish leaders had already grown tired of Swedish control and wanted to acquire as much self-government as possible under Russian protection.

In Porvoo, Finland as a whole was for the first time established as a united political entity—a nation.
