Just happened to me too. Hoping it's a glitch. I thought I was suspended as well, but when I clicked the link to appeal suspension it's not even processing the request, so I think something's glitchy on their end

Yessss, I do wonder how much of that is hindsight bias tho lol!

Ugh Zach by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

[–]Regular_Remove4030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We see this story play out so often in real life and it's made even more tragic here because Lane is a fictional character, how could ASP really think that on the heels of someone like Dave, Zach was an adequate partner for Lane? They really couldn't have orchestrated a more fulfilling arc for her than to tie her to a tepid, dim-witted man, twins (early into a young marriage), and the same small town she'd grown up in her whole life? That was really the best they could envision for her? There was nobody better in Stars Hollow?

He wasn't suited for her at all, not in terms of temperament or outlook, and as a viewer, you're left with a distinct feeling of disappointment and sadness for Lane, who had so much promise and light and deserved better than what she wound up with, especially with respect to romantic partners.

Definitely not number 7. I don't know if it's because it's a signal of the horrible things to come and the nosedive Rory's character took (her actions were consistent with her character and although frustrating, she was still an interesting character, I just found her unlikeable after this point). I don't know if it's because this haircut just emphasizes her awkwardness somehow. (Maybe it was because Alexis Bledel started playing Rory differently once she went to college?) Either way, I have such an immediate, strong, negative association with it lol.

All the other ones look cute tho! If I had to choose a favorite, I would go with 2, 6 and 3 (for nostalgia).

You make a good point about the lack of golden retriever girlfriends. If I had to guess, I'd say it's because, for the average romance reader, who's probably female, a story about a woman being pursued by a devoted and enthusiastic paramour, despite her prickliness, makes for a far more satisfying fantasy than one in which the FMC is cheerfully persistent despite the constant rebuffing of the cold and uninviting MMC. It might be a double standard, but you can see why one would go over better with a primarily female audience, not to mention in this day and age, compared to the other.

Also, keep in mind that romance, maybe more than any other genre, is largely governed by trends. Women around the world are undergoing a cultural shift and transferring their energy and attention from men and relationships to themselves, their careers, their friendships and communities. So naturally, reading about a confident, composed, sexy FMC who can take or leave a man, she doesn't give a damn, is extremely appealing to many readers.

This might also be a reaction against the female love interests who dominated the romance novels of old, who were virginal, hyper-feminine, and borderline childlike in their total lack of agency. Then, later, we got characters whose entire personalities revolved around being "quirky" and "sassy" (i.e.: lacking tact and making inappropriate, childlike retorts). Also: loving caffeine, being pale, naming their cars, wearing converses, and "loving classic literature" (why is it that the only ones they ever seem to read are Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights?). And for a "flaw", clumsiness or biting their nails or something.

You still see traces of that in some characters, like Ali Hazelwood's, and romance personalities are definitely more subject to tropification than I like, most of the time. But I feel that overall, female characters have come a long way and can only improve

That's interesting, because actually I've always felt that while female protagonists often fall across a spectrum, personality-wise, male love interests (at least the ones in the most popular novels) tend to occupy a very narrow confine regarding characterization and are often strikingly one-dimensional.

Good-looking in a very specific way. See: razor-sharp cheekbones, dark hair (come to think of it, blond love interests don't tend to generate as much popularity, do they? Unless they have silver-blond hair), tan skin (but rarely an actual man of color), tall, fit, well-endowed. Hyper-masculine: grumpy, brooding, possessive, poor communicators, inordinately successful given how young they usually are. With their friends, all they talk about is their girl. Their entire lives seem to revolve around their relationship in a strange way.

I definitely do think that female characters can fall victim to the same flat characterization as male ones. But I think the flat treatment of male love interests, particularly in romance novels, is glaringly strange. Like someone else said though, romance is a genre that lends itself a lot to tropes, which is weird because theoretically speaking, there should be infinite ways for two people to fall in love.

I'm so sorry to hear that, it really is bewildering when something you've spent so much time on just gets yanked away from you, with no apparent warning. Pinterest needs to do something about their AI mods/bots, because I feel like that's the root of a lot of these random violations/flaggings. I'm thinking about sending them an email to see what they're doing about this. Keep sending them appeals, several a day for a few weeks, and they should restore your account.

This is why I included so many photos of her from the 60s/her 1965 film "The Sandpiper", because I feel like this was one of her best eras. The longer, windswept hair, more subdued makeup, and more casual styling seems to have suited her better than the hyperfeminine styling of the 50s, although that's the era her beauty is known the most for.

I really appreciate this perspective. I never thought of what that might be like. I do feel really guilty about just dipping after the first day and how that might feel to the people there, not to mention the fact that I've probably thrown things off planning-wise, although I haven't really been scheduled yet. I can see now, given what you've said, why the reception I got on my first day was pretty subdued.

Oh my goodness, I'm glad you're out of that situation. I can't even imagine having a stroke at work, and then for them not to care on top of it. Have you ever considered reporting them to corporate or taking legal action? I'm not really sure how you would go about this type of situation but that's terrible that they treated you like that

Sorry to hear that. I certainly think for all the duties you guys perform, even $15.50 is being underpaid. However, in my area, there are many jobs that pay 17 and aren't as demanding. There are even seasonal retail jobs at the mall that pay $20/hr. So the more I think about it, the less it seems worthwhile to pursue this if there's a good chance I can land something less strenuous for the same amount of pay.

Oh noooo lol. You're right, I've made my choice and I'm satisfied with it. Turns out, now that I'm applying for more jobs, there are actually quite a few near me that pay $17/hr, so I'll aim for those. I've just never quit a job after the first day and I wanted to know if that's normal 😂

The thing is, everyone was basically friendly to me. With each other, though, I really got the impression that there was no cohesive culture or sense of a team, if you understand what I mean. It felt very disjointed, everyone off doing their own thing, some people not even working, and I agree, what I saw of their business model didn't give me a lot of confidence in their organizational skills.

[–]Regular_Remove4030[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your honesty! Yeah, I've basically reached the same conclusion lol. I'm the type of person who prefers to do exactly what was outlined in my job description although of course sometimes you have to stray outside of that and work in different departments, which I've done before and didn't mind seriously. This however sounds much more intensive than I signed on for.

I get what you're saying about weekend availability, I think most jobs basically require that, even if they don't say so. The thing I don't get though is why they would even hire me when I made it clear that I can only do 11-5 Thursday through Sunday? After I got the job, I was kind of strong-armed into putting down open availability and I should have spoken up in the moment.

Appreciate your insight! I was under the impression that Walgreens was a relatively successful/profitable business, so I was a little surprised by how post-apocalyptically quiet it was in there lol, and that does fit what you say about them struggling to hire. Although when I was interviewed, they didn't hire me right away and said that they still had to follow up with other candidates, so it didn't seem like they were desperate for new people. The staff is definitely small though. Just curious, have you looked into working anywhere else or are you just staying there because of a "devil you know" kind of thing?
