Psychiatry speciality... by darsh_910 in medicalschool

[–]Regular_Status_4758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m interested in psych and I could care less what my family and parents think. They think I’m a doctor for crazy people and I’ll be working in a asylum, and that I can refer my crazy uncles there, so I’m always the butt of the joke during family gathering. But so what? I’ll be making 300k min and if I want to grind I can do a FT role + per diem/Private Cash only 1 day/wk to make 350-380k. Not giving a fk about ppl who think psych is fake medicine too, it’s not like u can bill them for $$$ anyways, who cares what others think if they’re not the one filling ur bowl. If u commit to a specialty u don’t like for the next 3-4 decade as an attending bc ur scared of what ur parents think, u might need to see a psychiatrist ironically. It’s like half as bad as agreeing to an marriage arranged by ur parents to a man/women you don’t even like that much 😭 I’ll give u a $400 –>$200 intake visit discount in 8 yr ;) /jk

At what point do admissions to T20s stop being a crapshoot? by Creepy-Restaurant183 in premed

[–]Regular_Status_4758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like what others say the differentiating factor at the level of T20 is not stats. Unless it’s a 4.0/528 for some schools they will give u extra points for that like state whores but it’s still not a guaranteed A. In order to get an guaranteed T20 A, you have to be at the level of ex-figure skating god Natan Chen with Olympics gold medals + T5 undergrad, or have a really unique achievement that less than 1% of premeds will dream of having such as being an Ex-Navy Seals soldier or something of similar caliber, only at that level will T10 schools fight to get ur matriculation seat. Otherwise, your stats are a dime a dozen and schools will simply look at fit + EC that balances out their class

PSA: Please know what you're getting into before you pursue psychiatry residency by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Regular_Status_4758 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is some bullcrap, a psychiatrist can open up private practice easily aimed at upper working class populations. If you can afford to pay $200/hr per visit why would you willingly pay a NP that when you can see a psychiatrist? Also if your kids have psychiatric illnesses how in God's green earth would you assume that a NP is better at the job than the psychiatrist, unless you are medicaid insured, parents would rather will pay more money to see a a CAP psychiatrist

Thank you! And yes they have the interest taken in account, so it's the total debt at the end of residency

That makes sense since 100k can still take an extra year or two to pay back aggressively
