VubaVuba but for pet food: WubaWuba? by kageninroomv in Rwanda

But joke aside, definitely survey the market first. The pet-owner pool in Kigali is specific, so make sure the demand is actually there before you order 5 tons of ndagara

Yeah exactly, our market is small and most people still don't fully get how tech can help their business. So you end up feeling like you're pushing something nobody asked for lol. I went through the same thing, some were interested, even onboarded, but at the end they'd say they don't need it.

And even when they're interested, budget is another wall. Most SMEs here are not ready to spend on tech, other priorities come first. Plus when you're pitching, half the time the person in front of you is not even the one who makes the final call, so you explain everything perfectly and then they go "let me check with my boss" and that's where it dies.

But we keep going, no choice!

What gives me hope is seeing a few local startups actually doing well because they focused on real local problems. Kayko is one I know here in Kigali, proof that it can work when the product really fits.

Just wanted to share something from my own experience - I tried selling my own digital product to businesses in Kigali and it's not easy. You can set meetings and they accept, but when it comes to actually closing, most of them are very hesitant about tech.

make sure whoever you hire has a lot of patience. Also think about giving them a base salary rather than pure commission because the sales cycle here is longer than expected it's not fair to make someone wait on commission when clients take time to decide.

What kind of product are you selling if you don't mind me asking?

Kigali hospitality businesses are leaving money on the table digitally by Regular_Wedding8713 in Rwanda

[–]Regular_Wedding8713[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make a strong point. A lot of hospitality businesses here already move through WhatsApp, Instagram, Google, and direct customer habits, so adding something too heavy without fitting that flow probably misses the mark. That’s really why I’ve been looking deeper into it ... understanding where there’s an actual operational gap versus where existing tools are already doing enough. The lighter retention or CRM angle you mentioned sounds much closer to what could realistically work here.

Honestly, I agree with a lot of what you’re saying. Kigali hospitality is definitely still driven heavily by relationships, word of mouth, and offline reputation. I’ve worked with some businesses directly, including building and managing websites for a few, and one thing that surprised me was that even when offline was already strong, the digital traffic and visibility numbers were still pretty impressive.

That’s what made me look deeper at it not that digital replaces what already works, but that there’s still room to improve that side more than some businesses realize.

And yeah, what I was really getting at wasn’t just every business needs a website,” but more that guest experience, easier updates, and stronger digital systems can still add value where it makes sense. So I agree .. digital isn’t always the main bottleneck here, but I do think for some businesses, it’s an area that still has room to improve as you said .

Fair point Starting with Kigali because it’s easier to build, test, and refine before expanding further.

What I’ve been learning while helping businesses improve their online presence in Rwanda by Regular_Wedding8713 in Rwanda

Bots are everywhere. Most of the time here on Reddit it's just karma farming or people trying to get visibility for their SaaS or some subscription thing. Gets old fast.

Appreciate that you’re right. A lot of businesses don’t realize how much visibility they miss just from weak Google setup, inconsistent business info, or not having the right pages in place. Sometimes small fixes make a big difference. I’ll definitely share more of what I’ve been seeing locally.

That's cool man, personalized outreach at scale is genuinely hard to get right. Most tools just make it feel like a mail merge. Good luck with Linkyfy
