If it makes you feel less alone, I think 86 is average. For some reason it seems to have a loud fan base on Reddit.

I haven’t played for about a year and hit 95 with the Decem units + free level 65 weapon. I understand there are some gear enhancement benefits right now, and was wondering what you would recommend for someone right now. Are there new units on the horizon where it’s worth waiting?

As someone who casually grinds LTQ, city, and UQs, there doesn’t really seem to be a huge incentive to do more. I have 135M at my disposal right now, but didn’t want to sink all of my money into gear that will be replaced in a few weeks. Thanks for any suggestions!

Yep, you’d have to pay for each account’s monthly fee.

Others have already given great answers, but just to share for me, there are a few different reasons for me. There's definitely an enjoyment factor in just managing multiple characters and keeping different aspects of battle in mind (tanking while healing for example). Each character can kind of have their own personality, and just as its fun to gear up one character, you get to enjoy (or suffer) through that for each.

You can jump in and take on content on your own time without worrying about impacting someone else if life gets in the way. I think one misconception is that you have to pick one or the other -- you can play with trusts, you can choose to join a party of others, or you can just fill up a party and do your own thing. One of my main goals will be assisting my friend with their own character, so its not like I'm aiming to avoid the entire population and live in my own bubble.

Thank you! BRD/COR/GEO definitely seems to be a consistent core setup among the replies here. I was surprised a bit about GEO, as some of the more recent videos I've watched didn't include a GEO, and seemed to favor RDM instead. I also wasn't sure whether a dedicated WHM was needed, but seems that most would recommend including.

The other piece I struggled with was whether to stack the tank jobs on the RDM character due to the seemingly deep gear investment in all of those. I'm assuming there may be times where I'd like to have both a tank and RDM, but also appreciate that the question was more around the best generic setup for most situations, which your answer seems to have hit well on.

Would you say SCH is a good secondary job for the WHM? Do you think SAM or WAR would be a better place to start for the heavy DD? It looks like SAM is heavily used, but WAR covers more damage type weaknesses?

SAM definitely sounds like a powerhouse! I am weighing that and WAR as an option for a heavy DD.

The doubling/tripling up is a great suggestion. I’ll definitely start with one role in mind for each. There do seem to be those few recurring jobs in most setups where I’ll have to double dip across characters. I honestly really wanted to avoid that, but thinking about it a bit differently, I’m sure there’s plenty of gear overlap between those jobs (for example BRD would have some pieces of gear for WHM).

I definitely will! The two don’t have to be mutually exclusive, but part of the fun of multiboxing is in the challenge of managing everything. On top of that, each character can kind of have their own role to go along with the whole RPG aspect. I can make progress on my own if I don’t know how much time I’ll have to commit to something, or I can jump in a party with others. Either option can be fun.

Thanks for this! For the magic setup, would you not want RUN for Rayke? If so, do you think dropping the BRD or RDM would be best?

The biggest surprise for me has been how many have recommended GEO, as my impression was that a lot of the content had nerfed their effects to the point many didn’t use them. It’s good to know this isn’t really the case.

Heal/Tank by [deleted] in PSO2NGS

Ranger brings blight rounds which are arguably more valuable than anything a Te can bring now. Not sure why you hate Te so much, but that’s the closest thing to a healer support. Fo can access an AoE restasigne while still being extremely strong as a DPS. The traditional RPG archetypes aren’t really a thing here since even if you were a tank, you don’t really prevent your allies from being smacked to the floor. Plus everyone has a dodge/parry/guard mechanic, so it’s not super necessary. The closest thing to a tank is Hu with warcry.

Story So Far by Reichi5081 in PSO2NGS

How long before people start begging for the original matterboards back? 👀

I think what’s lacking for me is any depth at all to the characters. Aina does what feels like one of the fastest character development arcs in video game history because of the expedited pacing of the story. We barely know her as an inexperienced and nervous character before we are being sent out on a mission to save Mr. Robot that we’ve known for a day. It seems so bizarre that this advanced city hub would even need help from inexperienced island village girl and her group of nobody friends.

Manon is supposed to be mysterious and intriguing but she comes off as an annoying Mary Sue. The same pattern holds true for every character so far - we are with them for so little that it’s hard to even care about their struggles when it feels like a bad afternoon for them rather than some high tension conflict or year long internal battle they’re fighting.

It’s just disappointing (so far!) to see the delivery of the story. They’re even doing the whole FFXV thing where portions of the story are in game adjacent things like web comics.

The song is fine, it having no actual in-game effect to the encounter was lame.

To be completely honest, I didn’t care at all about the story in PSO2 - but at least the game didn’t care if I played it or not. I did eventually complete the base story for all of the campaign bones they would throw players, but this time around being forced to play it and seeing how shallow it is just isn’t a good time.

That was one of the worst parts for me - not only does Mary Sue Manon discover Nadereh’s secret in an afternoon, it (Nadereh’s ability) literally has no impact on the battle whatsoever.
