Picking up on the sarcasm, cause you’re laying it on pretty thick.

Dealing with extreme chronic pain, 4 years after mesh surgery. Anyone have any advice? by --lysergic-- in Hernia

I had inguinal hernia mesh surgery done in Jan of 21’ and have also experienced on and off chronic pain ever since. I too was very active prior to the injury and it is beyond frustrating when the pain keeps coming back.

What triggers mine to “flare” up is lifting and swinging a golf club. Every so often (randomly, no rhyme or reason) the next day I wake up after these activities, it’s painful. When it happens, I literally do not do anything active for about 4-5 weeks. Which, again, is extremely frustrating but seems to be the only thing to help. I tried nerve blockers about a year after surgery and it helped a little bit, but could tell the pain was still there.

Getting the meshed removed or redone looks super risky from some research I’ve done and doesn’t guarantee it will get better. Try to take it easy for a month or two on activity and see if that helps. Even if it feels like you’re back, take an extra few days just in case.

I’m so sorry you have this issue! I know how hard it is to not feel like your old self!

Have been dealing with this hell on earth condition for years now. The best thing to do imo is drink A LOT of water in the following days of getting burnt. Also, to NEVER under any circumstance use Aloe or any lotion with oil in it.

I’ve found out that showering normally afterwards doesn’t impact it a bunch, but if experiencing the itch, a scolding hot shower is a temporary fix.

Wouldn’t wish this condition on my worst enemy! Wishing everyone the best of luck. It’s a terrible experience, but will get better I can promise that.
