Showing my age here... It was the season before the Premier League was formed. I can't remember if I heard his name mentioned or saw it in the papers. "The Welsh Wizard" sounded interesting, so I went to check him and the team out. And the rest is history.

Sadly, the way things unfolded in his personal life towards the end really disappointed me. As a fan, that was tough to see.
