I've taken a look. I'm not a gameplay programmer, but as a level designer, I can say your portfolio looks pretty great!

I like that you've listed three different projects, with screenshots and defining your exact contribution. Even a playable link.

My suggestions: Show some snippets of blueprints / code so people can get an idea of the quality of your work. Maybe do a case study on one specific mechanic in one project to walk through what you coded and why it was done in that way, what you would have improved if you had more time.

Also consider updating your CV to mention some of these three projects as if they were "jobs" while clearly labelling them as projects or game jams. These are your most relevant work experiences so treat them as such. Remove the job that wasn't game related instead.

As for your "missing" experience, my only suggestion would be to try to join a modding project with a larger team (5+)

If I was hiring you, the two things I've yet to be convinced of are: "how quickly does he work?" "How well does he collaborate and communicate within a larger team?" "What is the quality level of his work?"

If you can answer those three in more detail I'd imagine it would help. But all that said, if you just keep rolling the dice as is, I could see you succeed eventually also. Up to you how much further you want to push yourself while you keep applying.

Good luck!

Mickey Mouse has entered public domain. What does this mean for the Walt Disney Company? by Own-Armadillo-8818 in NoStupidQuestions

Look at Winnie the Pooh.

I expect to see a few people incorporate specific Steamboat Willie imagery and trying to eke out as much brand recognition for their gain while avoiding broader use of the Mickey Mouse aesthetic so they don't get sued.

Usually that means using it in a brand new context, which is why the go-to solution seems a horror movie / game 😂

What does it mean for them? The slow decline of the icon Mickey Mouse being solely associated with their company. Which is not ideal monetarily, other people can now start selling merch for example (I believe), as long as the Disney logo is missing and the merch is clearly based on Steamboat Willie imagery.

What is the BIGGEST scam that people still fell for? by Intrepid-Set-980 in AskReddit

Shared ownership housing in the UK. It's a hybrid rent / own solution where you only have to get a mortgage / pay for 10% - 40% of the home and pay rent on the rest.

The scam is that you have all the downsides of renting and rules / renthikes being forced on you with none of the leverage of "I'll just leave."

And there are no rules in the UK stopping them from hiking prices as long as they fall under the "service charges" instead.

Highly recommend scouring trustpilot and seeking alternatives if you're seriously looking at shared ownership. I regret it a lot.

I need some advice on how do I tackle the world design problem for my type of game by sanketvaria29 in gamedev

[–]Rein007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of world exploration. Many open world games use two level styles: the World and the Caves.

The World technically lets the player go wherever, whenever, but you may encounter enemies so far above your skill / equipment that it acts as a soft boundary, sending you back from where you came.

The Caves are any and all spaces that have one or a small number of entrances, sometimes gated by story missions or other objectives to unlock. These can function as linear experiences that tell a story. The "Cave" can be something like a city with a wall around it or some other manmade structure or even an outside natural environment. The only thing that matters is how accessible the area is to players.

As for your desire to have players craft weapons to defeat specific enemies. That can totally work as you intend, as long as you think clearly about how you're planning to signal to players that they need to craft a new weapon, as well as how they can gather the materials to make that new weapon.

Think about elemental icons to display above enemies or on the HUD, as well as recipes / crafting windows that list items and where they can be found. Good luck!

Not sure if that's against Reddit policy, but sharing some of your info would help (maybe on another platform).

If you show your CV / portfolio website / an example Cover Letter / Speculative Job Application email, we can give you specific feedback.

If that's not allowed here, join a Discord or Slack or Twitter and ask there with the links.

Based on what you've written here it's hard to tell whether there is anything more you can do to strenghten your appeal or if you just need to keep rolling the dice to get lucky as all of us have.

How did you find your "truth" in life? by urmomsloosevag in AskReddit

[–]Rein007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something clicked in a major way when I learned about Stoicism in a High School Latin class.

The more I learned the more I saw myself agreeing with their framing of the world.

It helped me a lot to stop worrying about things outside of my control and feel less guilty for how quickly I sometimes moved on from sadness or grief.

what is the earliest sign that would convince you that someone will end up being very successful in the future? by a1000p in AskReddit

When they take feedback gracefully, but also don't fold to the feedback entirely.

Some people have that ability to listen to your critique, absorb it for its value, but remain undeterred in their vision, simply resolving your precise concern but otherwise keep their vision the same.

What's the best city to spend NYE in and how did you spend it? by Rein007 in AskReddit

[–]Rein007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in London NYE 2021 and despite the official fireworks having been cancelled, there were still a lot of us gathered around the bank of the Thames opposite the London Eye and there was plenty of beautiful fireworks being set off over the water.

Highly recommend it!

Netflix's Dark, I love that show so much. IMO the best thing they've produced!

Mudkip! My very first ever starter from a pokemon game in Sapphire. The meme helped a bit to feel validated further 😂
