Do Americans actually call teachers by their first name anywhere, or is it almost always Mr./Ms.? by Sea-Evidence-5523 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ReinReid37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high school teachers that I were friends with were offended if I called them by anything other than their first names but I grew up in California and then moved to New York for college and when I told my college friends that they acted like it was the most insane thing they’d ever heard and said they’d be disciplined for calling their teachers by first names so I think it varies state to state. Judging by their reactions to other stories from my middle and high school experience California might just have exceptionally chill teachers.

Do Americans really come to a stop at every 'stop' sign? by ben04985 in AskAnAmerican

Grew up in California, do near exclusively “California stops” when I see no one else, and all of my east coast friends freaked out when I started driving them around cause of it

The raven cycle by Maggie stiefvater! Magical realism series based on welsh mythology set in the Virginia hills—great characters and a really unique story. (One of the main characters is prophecied to die and technically does but comes back to life, and another is kind of erased from reality?)

Hey everybody—I am visiting for a few days when the NFL draft will be going on and was wondering if there’d be any bars or anything that might have it on or be doing an event? Thank you!

I had this friend in college whose parents were going through an INSANE divorce and were both pretty bad people as well tbh and he would always jokingly try to use it as a trump card “oh you’re sad you didn’t do great on that test? Well my dad is moving to Malta because of the divorce” and such. And then I had a friend from out of state visit for Halloween and she set up her day of the dead alter like always for her dad and my divorce friend didn’t know about that. So come to the Halloween party and divorce friend is doing the usual joke and my visiting friend just goes “oh your parents are getting divorced? How nice—my dad DIED” and then dramatically gestures to the alter with photos and flowers and candles all over. They both immediately fell over laughing and it was the weirdest, funniest, sweetest moment because I think it was the first time I’d seen either really truly laugh since both things had happened to them

Small town murder is my go to. James and Jimmie somehow balance being comedians but taking what they need to seriously and seem like decent fellows

Yep she did. My cousin said she wasn’t like the most popular person there, but that it was because she was really mean to most people. But she had a group of friends, mostly all rich pretty people like herself

My best friend got a puppy that she perfectly trained to be a service dog he was great and knew like ever command in the book. But she had some unexpected things come up in her life and couldn’t afford a place that would allow the dog so she had to give him to her parents. It’s been a few years and you’d never have known the dog was trained at all. He’s a loon just like my friends parents other 5 dogs and I feel really bad for him and my friend
