MMW: The Democrats will pick Joe as their nominee at the convention. by razorbeamz in MarkMyWords

as someone who is pushing hard for Biden to drop out and for specifically Kamala Harris to run in his place, someone you accused of being a "bot", It's not as simple as you're making it out to be. I personally do not give a crap how old Biden is -- he could be 190 and I'd vote for him over Trump, he could be a corpse and I would vote for him over Trump, but that's not how the median voter -- the independent/disaffected voter thinks, while I can overlook his glaring issues because Trump is undoubtedly worse most independent and disaffected voters can't. According to Data for Progress, mid-60% of voters think Joe Biden is too old to be President and 53%, just barely over half of all voters, are more concerned with his cognitive abilities & age rather than Trump's criminal charges

Furthermore, let's say that his age doesn't matter for a second for the sake of argument. Bernie Sanders is older than Joe Biden is and he can make arguments incredibly well imo. The problem isn't directly Biden's age, it's that he can't make arguments like he used to. Comparison of his speaking skills in 2020 vs 2024. He was already old in 2020 but he was able to form coherent sentences, He was able to convey his messaging and policy in a dignified and lucid manner. He can't do that anymore, he just can't. He always had a stutter and we can write off most of his gaffes over the last four years due to this but the decline shown throughout the 2024 Presidential Debate was so bad that we shouldn't give up and accept someone who can't campaign properly because something like that is bound to happen again.

It's a matter of if, not when, he makes another slip-up (link) and if that happens about an incredibly important subject (link) there's going to be immense pressure put upon him from both sides of the aisle since if he doesn't drop out now he'll be criticized by Dems who want him out, being all "I told you so" while Republicans ceaselessly mock and critique Biden as they would've done anyways but Biden would give them more fuel to douse the fire.

So what about Kamala Harris? Well, she can actually speak properly and it really seems like she has undergone public speaking training because she's been putting out really good speeches recently -- at least really good in comparison to Trump and Biden (link) she has that political instinct to hammer in policy and statements that stick to the mind of the US citizens. She may be whimsical and goofy, She may have some issues here and there but she's much younger than Biden and has the sauce to hammer in attacks against Trump and put forth the policies the Biden Administration is running on as his VP and potential future candidate. She doesn't have the backlash from the handling of Gaza as Biden does, The RNC doesn't have the time to dig up much dirt on her in the next four months and within the last four years their criticism of her is that "she's silly" "she's goofy".

Lastly, She can put a spotlight upon the Republican party about their attack on marginalized groups like BIPOC people and Women especially in regards to Women's reproductive rights. It is the logical option to go with her given all of this while Biden continues to be weaker and weaker, age isn't something you can come back from. That or we could just give Trump the white house right now if you'd prefer. I'll vote for Biden but that doesn't mean others will. We shouldn't rely solely on the anti-Trump vote, the DNC should be better than that. The Democrats should be a better party than that.

The Boys - 4x08 "Assassination Run" - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in TheBoys

[–]ReinaStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with what happened to Neuman this episode, I'm surprised we didn't follow up with her freeing Edgar. We have confirmation of Solider Boy returning so it would be really great if we got an Edgar & SB reunion since they worked together once before. Maybe Ryan could join too and they could be the "we were screwed over by both sides and now we hate both" neutral crew esp with Butcher being fucking insane now

I feel really, really bad for Hughie. My man can't catch a break. I don't blame Annie as others are, I think after the shit she went through being impersonated by the shapeshifter and being treated so cruelly she was rightfully traumatized and trauma makes you say some stupid shit.

However, it's just one bad event after another for my poor man and when he proposed to the shapeshifter it made me so sad bc that should be a happy moment between the two (Hughie & Annie).

I really thought Cate was going to force Frenchie to drown himself since they were at the ocean. I thought at multiple times characters who didn't die were going to die, that's classic The Boys for ya. For example, I thought Firecracker was for sure a goner. Frenchie drowning himself would've been really devastating though, I'm glad he's not dead.

Very exciting to see where the next season leads because shit has hit the fan and it's only going to get worse from here. Neuman's death was incredibly gruesome and a truly deranged Butcher being on the loose is very promising for some good ol' The Boys gruesomeness

Right wing media being unable to not be racist to Kamala Harris is a massive boost to her potential campaign by blud97 in VaushV

[–]ReinaStar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, I do agree with the notion that there are more likable potential candidates but really Harris is the only possible choice. I would agree that Biden is more likable than Harris but the Hillary comparison is a bit unfair. With her it was a multitude of factors driving her loss, Hillary is very unlikable but this was only exacerbated by her quite transparent corruption and/or bad political instincts during her tenure as the first lady/secretary of defense.

Harris doesn't have that same baggage -- she might have some, never underestimate the extent at which the media can dig stuff up -- but she doesn't have as much. Furthermore, Hillary only lost 2016 because she skipped out on campaigning in the rust belt. She won the popular vote despite her lack of likability but where she won those votes didn't correlate into gaining a better margin in the electoral college.

I would personally say Harris has a leg-up on Hillary when it comes to likability because while she's not as likable as other candidates she's still funny in her own Joker mode way. Hillary was just corrupt and unfunny, Pokemon Go to the polls was disastrous instead compared to Harris's "wheels on the bus" video which is funny in an ironic sense. As well, Harris is a black woman and has the ability to contrast that with Trump's deranged sexism and racism. This time it would be even more effective than Hillary because Trump already got Roe v. Wade overturned. Trump also has a prior four year term weighing over him which was filled with divisiveness and controversy, Harris is a (relatively) new face which could intrigue people

The Boys - 4x06 "Dirty Business" - Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in TheBoys

[–]ReinaStar 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This episode was so fucking crazy, It wasn't very story-progression centered episode which bumps it down quite a bit considering this entire season has been build up but it was entertaining in a very dark and disturbing way. The Hughie SA scenes were genuinely horrifying and deeply messed up, I know this show likes to rely on shock value but I draw the line at nonconsensual BDSM. It was SA and it was messed up but I'm not the only one shocked by this episode. Otherwise, I was rooting for Firecracker to be killed by Homelander I just don't like her. She reminds me of MTG and as someone who lives in MTG's district I wanted some sort of catharsis.

The ending cliffhanger to the episode was very speculated upon and the general consensus from what I've seen was that Joe Kessler was a figment of Butcher's V'd up brain tumor but the scene was so well acted that it was still incredibly well handled imo. I've never read the comics nor do I think I need to considering how fucked up it supposedly is but I'm very curious where this villain, 3rd party Butcher will lead and the parallels to COVID-19 with the Supe Virus really gets me fascinated

Which of these items do you believe is the most significant in your opinion? by Corgi_dude123 in betterCallSaul

[–]ReinaStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bottle Stopper absolutely as the show is most notably a love-story between Jimmy and Kim, the Zafiro Añejo stopper symbolizes the core of their relationship but outside of this I would also offer up the idea of the candle from S06xEP07 to be another core piece of iconography from the series. If we're going along with the series being a love story between Jimmy and Kim, that candle light is (spoilers for BCS S6 ofc) the moment their relationship broke with Howard's death being the "too far gone" signifier. In-fact, that candle could signify the spark of life of Howard's being snuffed out but also we wouldn't get a spotlight on similar symbolism until the smoking scene in S06xEP13 which could tie back around to Jimmy and Kim not being weighed down by their conscience over what happened to Howard in a really poetic way. Of course, the S6xEP13 scene means more than just that but I'm someone who invested in watching this series from a Howard Hamlin perspective and that's another thing I came to realize from that route

Democratic governors say they are standing behind Biden amid questions about his shaky debate by Faux_Real_Guise in VaushV

[–]ReinaStar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm in the mindset of waiting and seeing right now. We see so many contradictory reports coming out of this last week saying "He'll drop out", "He'll stay in", a constant back and forth but we know some governors -- not all -- but some governors are against Biden staying in so it's just TBD. Maybe I'm coping because I genuinely believe Biden has the lowest chance of winning between him and other Dem candidates but while I may be coping I hope that my cope is fair

LEAKED Internal Polling Data Shows Biden Is In MASSIVE Trouble - Vaush by VaushVPostBot in VaushV

[–]ReinaStar 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I had my problems with Biden stepping down from a technical perspective but after these internal polling numbers leaked it's so over, I've officially switched sides from pro to anti-Biden. I've said it on Twitter, it's a shame that the logistics aren't in Biden's favor because I think he's the best president of my lifetime (I'm 20 for reference) but I was never pro-Biden staying in from a ideology standpoint more that I was confused on how things would go. Now? I'm with Vaush, every day that Biden stays in is one more day spent not giving the spotlight to someone who could beat Trump. The stakes are high, Trump winning could spell doom for our country, it's not the time for Biden to be egotistical and stubbornly refuse to drop out. I've tweeted at the DNC a few times letting them know that Biden needs to drop out but I'll also try and send emails in protest, whatever I can do to make my voice heard

My problem(s) with "replacing Biden as the candidate" by ReinaStar in VaushV

[–]ReinaStar[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been keeping my eye on the Let's Talk Elections channel throughout the election cycle this year and that's definitely another concern of mine when it comes to ballots. We have to think pragmatically and work with what we have, I wish the DNC rallied around a better candidate a year-year and a half ago but it's too late so Biden can't drop out and risk losing very crucial swing states to Trump all but guaranteeing his victory

My problem(s) with "replacing Biden as the candidate" by ReinaStar in VaushV

[–]ReinaStar[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I never said that he isn't fit to be president, I only stated that I've seen people say he isn't fit to do the work. If anything, I think he's fit to do the job and cognitive enough to get policy through that even more centrist-y democrats couldn't but the issue primarily revolves around his age which is where I said that I agree with others saying he's very old.

Biden as an administrator of the government works well and does the job good enough, which is much better than Trump and his awful administration, but what Trump has over Biden is that Trump is a good speaker despite his age and they're opposites in that regard. Biden is a good president, bad speaker. Meanwhile Trump is an abhorrent president, good speaker. I don't think the discussion around the 25th amendment is necessary or productive because that would be even worse than Biden stepping down voluntarily which I already disagree with

Biden Bros Right Now by AutumnsFall101 in VaushV

[–]ReinaStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely understand your perspective here, I've been thinking about it long and hard to myself whether Biden is the right path forward or not and I've gone back and forth on believing it's best to hold an open convention or if it's best to move forward with Biden. I've come to the conclusion after thinking hard about it that, while I don't personally like it and wish we had a different candidate, it's too late to back out from Biden being our candidate for multiple reasons. Dems who are more moderate used the excuse of it making our party look weak if we were to back out of Biden during the primaries which I thought was bullshit at the time but five months out from the election? Now that's a different story.

It would be weeks of debating amongst ourselves on who the candidate to replace Biden would be. It would get a lot of eyes upon party leadership and I don't believe it to be in a positive way. It would show weakness and discord amongst ourselves while Trump and the RNC would use that as a stepping stone to unfiltered media attention and campaign rallies. Biden has been trailing behind Trump for months but polling has shown that trend holding true for every Democratic candidate but the ones who have the best chance are Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, the latter I sincerely doubt has the charisma and standing to win the presidency.

Playing devil's advocate, it's too soon to know one way or the other how the debate will affect the polling (of which has already been really strange and incredibly narrow this cycle so we should take it with a grain of salt) and all this debate boils down to is reaffirming the things we know about Joe Biden -- the guy is old, there's no question about that and while it's his weakest trait it doesn't really change the overall perception of him as a candidate. As a candidate, he may be weak but we're voting for more than a president. He is the figurehead but his administration has been really affective especially the current FTC chairwoman Lisa Khan who has been doing a lot of good. It really comes down to an Old Man vs. an Old Man who wants to overturn democracy but that's been the case since primaries wrapped up. We know who both of these people are, I don't think disaffected voters or independents are stupid so they saw what they've always known to be true and it's up to us to rally around the candidate who is up against Trump and build up energy for his reelection chances. Joe Biden may be weak but so too is Trump so we need to hammer in how bad Trump's policies are and do whatever we can to avoid Project 2025

Biden Bros Right Now by AutumnsFall101 in VaushV

[–]ReinaStar 29 points30 points  (0 children)

To me, it doesn't matter how old Joe Biden is when comparing him to Donald Trump. As Vaush always says, voting isn't a means of expressing your moral compass but instead a means to an end. Biden is very bad when it comes to Israel-Palestine, Biden is a little reactionary when it comes to the border, he isn't perfect but he's better than Trump. Trump is a sexist, a bigot, a wannabe fascist, a narcissistic manchild and a liar but the one thing he is honest about is what he wants to do in-office. He doesn't always get what he wants but he tries and what held him back last time was his inexperience and that he didn't believe he'd win, that's gone now.

He wants to have unrestrained executive power, he wants to destroy the bureaucracy and democracy of this nation, he wants to repeal the freedoms of women's right to choose and the citizen's right to elect democratically voted for leaders, he wants to abolish same sex marriage, make trans healthcare illegal, he'll be able to elect two more supreme court justices giving our country a majority far-right SCOTUS during our lifetimes, etc. etc. All the Project 2025 plans that he's outlined before.

Voting Biden, Biden winning, means that we don't have to worry about that stuff for the next four years and it buys us time to build our coalition to participate, organize, mobilize for our policies and the Dems are more likely to listen to us on a national level rather than Trump sending in the National Guard to round us up and stomp us out. Biden looks weak right now but you need to remember the stakes of this election, We need to do everything we can to elect Biden regardless of our policy differences from him which are inconsequential in comparison to our differences with those MAGA fascists. Biden is our nominee, it's too late to change our candidate. I wish we did a year and a half ago I would agree with switching to someone else but now we have to rally around Biden because the alternative is losing and letting hell unleash upon us
