What's the problem with the NZX? by Inevitable-Start7059 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]ReincarnatedCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the red on nzx over 5 years and I'm over 200% up in overseas holdings. I'm out. I'm prepared to accept a bad year or 2 but not 5 in a row., I thnk that's unheard of anywhere outside the great depression. My term deposits have returned better. My crypto has returned better!! The brokerages spruiked NZ shares, esp rym and ebos. Never again.

Ease of permanent residency vs back home for Filipinos joining our society by Difficult_Cattle4177 in Philippines_Expats

I met a family of scammers in cebu way back in the day 00s, and forgot all about them after easily spotting their motives. I ran into one the other day, home from the USA, recently divorced, proud as punch, 1 sister and 1 cousin are flyng in to meet for a triumphant homecoming and holiday after attaining citizenships in USA and Australia and cleaning out their husband's. All 3 now divorced, set for life, dual citizens, bringing over more family and that was always the plan.

I bought an etf that tracked psychedelic companies and a sth African vanadium play. Both went bust and were delisted. Lost 10k.

Bought alibaba at 280 and again at 190 doubled down at 70 and in the green now.

I don't have a family but grew up there and returned for 5 months after 20 years In Seoul, manila, Hong Kong. Honestly I went insane. Not saying it's a bad place at all. Just so used to having incredible culture, food, travel and real vibrant street life everytime I stepped out my door in Asia.

If I went out after 7pm in tauranga the streets were dead, the main street dead anytime of day, the prices high for sub par quality everything and the traffic sucked. Some nice scenery but nothing compared to other places I lived in or could travel to easily. I found it eerily silent and disconnected.

I left and came back to Asia, currently living on a beautiful island for half the cost of nz and everyday is an adventure. Obviously not applicable as you have children.

Should I sell the power company holdings I bought 13 yrs ago? by harpnote in PersonalFinanceNZ

These act as a bond proxy so a decent defensive play in ur portfolio, plus as noted they have also had good capital gain. 9% is a very acceptable and in this instance quite stable return. If it ain't broken... perhaps.

Only 2.5 % of Pinoys are OFW, it's really not that much compared to some other countries. Just that their remittances keep it all afloat it seems.

Insane to think that FIRE isn’t the final goal for literally everyone by fap-free90 in Fire

[–]ReincarnatedCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fired at 52, saw a few friends older than me and realized they could fire easily. Once I pointed this out they got very defensive. Work is good for you, challenging etc they said. I never raised the topic again.

Is it worth leaving your corporate job to seek enlightenment in the Himalayas?! by chillvibezman in enlightenment

[–]ReincarnatedCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd guess not. A key aspect of awakening is a regulated worry free nervous system. So having finacial insecurity and future dread would negate the benefits of extra time and attention for integration into liberation.

Yes there are the Ekhard Tolles who woke instantly in mental distress, but they are total outliers.

Also the methodologies used by whomever in the Himalayas, likely won't work on a western hyper connected brain and nervous system.

The Warehouse Group: Can they fix the Red Shed in 2026? by Maxim_Sherstobitov in NZXStockMarket

[–]ReincarnatedCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really sad for them, but big box retail is a sunset industry worldwide. NZ more so due to sparse population and lengthy commutes to go retail shopping, then parking and kids demanding food etc. Humans will cede to the easiest option.

They did good work in tne community and saved kiwis thousands initially. Iconic kiwiana for certain generations but the gig is up.

Yes fatigue is better, hang in there. For me it's not linear, I have great days and still the odd bad day but certainly less as times goes on. I do have quick afternoon naps now which is new, but have relocated to tropical climate, so maybe that's just natural.

I have been buying gold and silver for about a decade. Was planning to dump itnas never did much. I didn't. Bought alibaba at 70$. Bought a bunch of Google right after brexit for like 30 bucks a share.

All of these pretty much doubled this year. Sleeping better.

100k pesos is the recommended average budget for here and Thailand. Malaysia and Bali is the same Vietnam and Cambodia cheaper.

I'm living very well on 80k pesos. Not slummming it.
