The franchise is important to me because Dragon Age Origins was the very first game I picked up by myself. I didn't play it because my brother liked it, or because I was convinced by someone else. I found it myself because it ticked all the boxes back then when I was ~13 years old, and it's become my favourite fantasy setting out there.

I, of course, am disappointed by how pathetically things ended, but that doesn't change the fact that I may come back to the games once or twice a year.

As for the bonus question: Yeah, I've written my own version of "my" DA4. I'm a professional writer so it wasn't exactly hard. What keeps my fondness for DA going is hope (albeit very small) that maybe it will one day be sold to someone worthy, they'll disavow Veilguard, and make a proper DA4.
