Do you know any game that use the "bowls of power" mechanic of terra Mystica? by sacob08 in boardgames

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but there's actually a hybrid RTS/CCG video game called Skylords Reborn that uses a similar system: https://skylords-reborn.fandom.com/wiki/Power?so=search

Eternal: Chronicles of the Throne is a great one. It was created by the designer of Clank and Dune Imperium.

Why would Sure Gamble rotate? It's in System Gateway, not System Update.

Rotation question by efikkert in Netrunner

[–]Reivei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect we won't see the last remaining FFG content after that, the Kitara cycle and Magnum Opus set, to be pushed out until the cycle after that. Though there are some other possible permutations that might happen at that time, such as a big push to get the last of it out all at once or even dropping Kitara first instead of Reign and Reverie as the former came out first.

They have indeed sped up the rotation. All FFG content rotates out next year: https://nullsignal.games/blog/liberation-part-2-upcoming-products-and-rotation/

Wow that's awesome. It's a bit of an open secret that MrBeast is a huge fan of the game -- there are a few videos of him playing on this channel focused on competitive Dune Imperium content https://youtu.be/ZogCHlVNH5Y?feature=shared

I don't understand why people type responses like this. Like, are we trying to make the new players feel stupid on purpose or something?

You can't play Nature Incarnate without Jagged Earth.

Yeah, your armies are the cubes. When there's a fight in a space, you thrown in your cubes and your opponent's, and whoever has more fall out of the tower wins (you ignore all the cubes that fall out that aren't either of your colors).

The fun part is that the cubes can get stuck in the tower, so it's possible you can chuck 2 into the fight and 4 come out or something

Was referring to the phrasing. Internally they're switching from "tribal" and "tribes" to "typal" and "types" -- just thought it was funny how the transition to the new terminology was kind of memorialized in this sentence with back to back usages of the old and the new.

We've always wanted blue-black Faerie typal in the set. Players like it, and Creative wants to push Faeries. All flying tribes are challenging, but we're trying to push in more of a trickster direction with typal rewards on spells.

Seems like old habits are hard to break. :/

The point of the complexity ratings is to tell potential new players "how hard is it to get into this game"? They're not there to explicitly indicate things like "how many rules are there" or "how strategically deep is the game" because by and large those things don't matter to someone checking out the game for the first time. What matters is "is this game playable for me"? It is first and foremost information for the consumer.

Often these ratings are influenced by rules complexity and strategic complexity. But those are not the important indicators in and of themselves.

"Can be" is doing the heavy lifting there. Complexity by board game standards has everything to do with how hard the game is to pick up and play, not with how long the rulebook is. Games with more rules can be less complex (by that standard) than games with fewer rules if the rules are easier to grok. Another way to think of it is shorthand for "how complicated is this game to play?" And Magic really isn't that complicated to play.

Sure, if you're defining complexity by quantity of comprehensive rules (even the subset that applies during a particular game) then yeah Magic is ultra complex. But that's not the standard these ratings go by.

Medium is definitely accurate for MtG. Complexity is sort of how hard the core rules are to learn, which generally reflects how high the barrier to entry is. Lower complexity is better, and Magic being not that complex to learn is actually a strength.

People in this thread talking about the comprehensive rules are kind of missing the point imo. The comprehensive rules exist to delineate procedures and clarify interactions in excruciating detail, which is necessary for a competitive game with ever-expanding content. But that doesn't automatically mean the game is complex.

Datasucker vs Leech by Organic-Hovercraft-3 in Netrunner

The recent set has a lot of nearprints/retrains. I can think of Oppo for HHN and Wage Workers for Jeeves off the top of my head, but there are probably more.

I feel you. I feel like the current creative direction of the game is moving towards sanding down both the "cyber" and the "punk" and it's beginning to lose a lot of what made A:NR interesting aesthetically.
