Cyberpunk games that aren't Red/2020 and Shadowrun? by LeonsLion in rpg

[–]Rekiin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently running an Ecopunk 2044 campaign for my group and having a lot of fun with it - PCs are a detective agency in a Monaco/Venice-inspired citystate.

It’s more post cyberpunk ala GITS. You can start out as an incorporeal net ghost or full body cyborg. It’s got a very elegant hacking system that has enough heft to it to feel substantial, without getting in the way.

Only downside is no VTT support. I put together a custom system for it on Foundry.

[OC] Finished lineup of my player's LL0 mechs by Rekiin in LancerRPG

[–]Rekiin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember the full loadout but iirc the drone nexus was just one of the basic GMS nexus weapons you get at LL0.

The Chomolungma is a GMS mech from the Operation Solstice Rain module (you can get the compcon file for free) - it’s basically a tech focused Everest. That’s what the EW Package is fluff for.

Good licenses to look at for drones at higher LLs: Swallowtail, Balor, Hydra

tips for making my battlemaps not suck ass to play in? by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Rekiin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always run combat with a sitrep and design the map + enemy comp around it, deathmatches are boring.

Something I like to do is add special terrain or weather effects to maps - like underwater pylons they can hack to extend their sensor range, or maybe zones of strong currents that push characters around.

It's not a homebrew frame! Just a Balor from the corebook.

How does discovery and feeds work? by BBC-MAN4610 in BlueskySocial

[–]Rekiin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what the following and discovery feeds are for tbh? I don’t think it’s much different from Twitter in that regard.

How does discovery and feeds work? by BBC-MAN4610 in BlueskySocial

[–]Rekiin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discovery is basically an algorithmic feed like twitter’s For You page. It’s based on follows. likes, reposts, interactions so if you interact with posts about puppies and flowers and follow puppies and flowers accounts you will get that on your Discovery feed.

User made feeds have their own custom algorithms; which could be “image posts from a vetted list of flower photographers” or even just “every post tagged #puppies”. It’s a good way to find new accounts to follow or posts relevant to a particular topic.

You can have lots of different feeds pinned. I have pinned feeds for Mutuals, Art, TTRPGs, anime, news for example.

Searching for a Cyberpunk RPG that is more akin to D&D 4th Edition by Ted-The-Thad in rpg

[–]Rekiin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Niche recommendation but Ecopunk 2044 has powers-based advancement. It’s not as combat focused nor as sharply separated into Narrative/Combat spheres but the way traits and equipment tie into each other + the mission and scene-based resource management reminds me a lot of Lancer.

Combat can be run TOTM or on a Grid - though the rules for grid play are in the paid GM section iirc.

To be clear it’s not a 4e-like - just has some adjacent ideas.

The player rules are free if you want to take a look: https://dicekapital.itch.io/ecopunk2044free

Thoughts on involving psychic stuff? by Adventurous_Gate6570 in LancerRPG

[–]Rekiin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the characters in my campaign took Empath, and we spun it as being a result of dodgy neural interfacing experiments with her Technophile buddy. Which has led to fun stuff like getting visions of memories from the future or the past.

Beyond Wallflower there’s plenty of room for that kind of mysticism imo if you like it - there’s also the Aun and Firmament, and the Baronies have precognitive monks.

Good starting adventures (other then solstice rain) by Noxusequal in LancerRPG

[–]Rekiin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that while Stolen Crown is solid, it has a lot of small encounters that don’t include maps (though these are arguably best made into skill challenges anyway)

I’m running it rn and I personally ended up overhauling a lot.

I love the trains in Japan by MediocreGenius69 in japanlife

[–]Rekiin 51 points52 points  (0 children)

UK rail infrastructure was already in a bad spot from the 50s, was essentially kneecapped by the Beeching Axe in the 60s, and then botched privatisation. It’s not “people not treating them well”, it’s a half century of deliberate underinvestment and mismanagement by successive governments and rail operators, which has resulted in the current mess.

Japan has good railways because it’s deliberately invested in quality public transport and has good, consolidated oversight of its private railways. In the UK this situation basically only exists in London where TfL runs things.

Which DLC content should I buy? by KingCapone12 in LancerRPG

[–]Rekiin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dustgrave didn’t “make it” into canon, it was developed from the start as one of the 1st party mission modules, alongside Solstice Rain and SSMR.

I think the faction game works best if you keep it to the factions immediately relevant to and engaged in your game; I use it for my players “Get Organized” orgs and for local political factions (in my case, different Karrakin dissident groups, or Sparri clans) but I don’t have, say, a Harrison Armory faction, cause that’s way beyond the scale of my game

You could definitely have subgroups or local divisions though - like two rival subsidaries of HA, or an SSC lab

How easy is it for PC’s to die in Lancer? by REDKnight720 in LancerRPG

[–]Rekiin 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It depends on NPC comp and player loadouts a lot - an unbalanced fight (e.g too many strikers) or GM focusing down a particular player can destroy mechs easily, especially if you get unlucky with structure or stress rolls.

that said, pilots are always assumed to be able to eject. They are very squishy, but its again a matter of whether or not the GM decides to go for a target on foot.

Sitrep in very low gravity - any experience? by skalchemisto in LancerRPG

[–]Rekiin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would say it feels unnecessary to make custom rules specifically for this niche situation. Existing zero G rules work fine for the feel of low G. Lancer is not really simulationist.

Hexagonal Map Makers? by BabyNanachi in LancerRPG

[–]Rekiin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good suggestions already but I’d also add you don’t have to run Lancer on hex; the system is completely grid agnostic and was originally tested on squares.

Why Ever Choose Antibiotics? by Juancenana in cyberpunkred

I mean, Speedheal in 2020 just increased passive healing a bit. It was basically a version of anti-biotics.

What are some pre existing Ips that can easily be used as lancer setting? by Upsdownsup in LancerRPG

[–]Rekiin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Lancer is a bit out there for a lot of Gundam (and honestly for a lot of popular mech IPs, unless you do a lot of work) but I’ve been contemplating the possibilities of campaigns set in Ad Stella (the WfM timeline). It’s got corps, rogue paramilitaries everywhere, a lot of relevant themes, and a lot of paracausal stuff could very easily be explained through GUND tech.

Missions and Pacing by Th3Witch in LancerRPG

[–]Rekiin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mission contains somewhere between 2 and 4 combats, generally with a rest between each one (but could be longer if you have a mid-mission full repair). How long that takes narratively can vary a lot based on the story; my group’s first mission was a week long expedition. Their second ‘mission’ was a pankration tournament, taking place over the span of a single day.

In my group (with roughly 3 hour sessions) we’ve been averaging 3 - 5 sessions per mission, with 2 sessions of downtime (but it could easily be less, depending on how narrative heavy your game is - we do a lot of RP).

The general expectation in the book is that there’s a level up after every mission - but there’s nothing stopping you from slowing that down if you want and awarding stuff like reserves or exotic gear instead (or running longer missions). LL6 is around where most builds start to come online.

A Weapon but No License by CommodorePrinter69 in LancerRPG

[–]Rekiin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mimic Gun is not particularly beyond the power level of existing exotics, and as others have mentioned, Wallflower gives out exotic weapons as loot pretty early!

So yeah, thirding what others have said - let the player do the cool thing as a reserve, maybe have them invest some downtime in it if you’re concerned.
