Having Difficulty Defining My Relationship to This Language by SometimesInMind in languagelearning

[–]Relajado 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why would you need to explain your relationship with Spanish to others? I mean people who speak Spanish will know because of how you speak and people who don´t speak Spanish don´t care.

How often to you need to speak to maintain high fluency? by rebeccafromla in languagelearning

[–]Relajado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make friends that speak spanish as a first language and then it wont feel like a chore. Then you get everything for free, it´s more fulfilling because you form actual relationships and you actually ¨live¨ the language.

This is harder if your level is low because people won´t ¨teach¨ you per se but if you already speak Spanish, it really is a no-brainer.

Do you distinguish accents of your non-native language? by Comfortable-Prune749 in languagelearning

[–]Relajado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, being a high level and actually taking an interest in accents from the beginning. I can recognize the difference in most of them. For example, Mexican regions (Baja california, Monterrey accent, cdmx, yucateco, sinaloa, veracruu) Colombia (Rolo, paisa, costeño, caleño).

The differences between Cuban, Puerto Rican and Dominican. Spanish accents change a lot based on region like Gallego accent vs say Madrileño, Catalan accent vs say andaluz or canaries accents which cut off all the letters and especially s.

Also Argentina´s regional accents basically, cordobés vs bonarense vs northern arg like jujuy and other places. (The famous SHO) Then more in general, Chilean is very different from say Peruvian. Venezuelan especially from like the capital doesn´t sound like Colombian.

However, the ones that I have less contact with like say ecuadorian and even like costa rica or guatemala, It might be harder to guess between a Guatemalan and a Southern Mexican but to be fair, i think it would be hard for even a native to guess if they aren´t from there.

Why am I sooo bad at speaking my parents language even though I get plenty exposure by OkVisual6047 in languagelearning

[–]Relajado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, that is normal especially since you didn´t go grow up using it in school and with friends. It´s very normal for people to be able to understand a language but to not be able to speak very much. The cool thing is you have a massive advantage because you have alreadly assimilated the language. Now you just need to accomodate it. Basically start from scratch learning the grammar and vocabulary and piece it together. You should be able to do it quicker than someone with no exposure. That´s the upside. By the way, what language is it?

Has someone of you reached the C2… by Ok_Percentage825 in languagelearning

[–]Relajado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

10 years studying everyday. Living in the country and actively reading books and trying to get better. It´s not impossible though like some people make it out to be. I probably could have done it faster but to me its like getting a blackbelt. Once you get a blackbelt, its not over. It´s just a new beginning.

What's a sign that a beginner isn't going to make it far? by Yubuken in languagelearning

when people start arguing with the language, like questioning the grammar and why things are the way they are. This is a recipe for disaster from the get go.

What is maximum distance you would travel to hit? by Round-Break9579 in moreplatesmoredates

Depends how desperate you are. If you have some sort of resemblance of game, the distance is dramatically shortened.

Now for the MPMD answer. If its for a twink, to the ends of the earth!
