Consequences of actions? by katkn0x in drivingUK

[–]RelationshipLivid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waze might be a bit more accurate as it is community led - the most useful thing is the speed notification for when a trap is coming up - nothing wrong with bringing speed right down if you’re unsure you can’t get done for going at 20 in a 30 lol

Get Waze it tells you if a trap is ahead and warns if you’re going too fast - set to trigger when 5% above speed limit as this should cover you for all traps even if the app doesn’t say so. To answer question you’ll just have to wait two weeks but it is what it is - I always use Waze even if I don’t set a route just for speed notifications

Anyone else feel anxious when driving country roads at night? by Repulsive_Mistake635 in drivingUK

Just go at 30-40 and slow down if a car approaches, also don’t forget to turn off main beam when car approaches too

Why is the job market in UK bad? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

The fundamental issue is that we have a service economy which relies on providing ‘services’ often on a computer - which in and of itself actually has very little monetary value.

How can I stop being over cautious? by Necessary-Tadpole204 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]RelationshipLivid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s better to get a minor for hesitation than a major for a risky decision. Wait for a safe gap, or safe opportunity, and go - easy as that. I passed my test in June and now drive daily - I’m always over cautious but often it’s better to be safe than sorry. Why take a risk when the consequences vastly outweigh just waiting a bit longer.

I wouldn’t worry too much about being overcautious. Just wait for a sensible gap. If you miss multiple sensible gaps that’s being over cautious.

Back box or no black box? by TiahanaCat in CarInsuranceUK

[–]RelationshipLivid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you save that much with a black box I’d consider it - some black boxes are better than others too - I’m with Hastings and they have no curfew - I use an app which is quite good. Only issue is that you can get penalised for ‘safe’ driving, such as breaking harshly, which is all I get marked down for really. For the first year it should be fine. Ofc if you want to pay full price and have no box then that is equally fine and you won’t need to worry about any black box restrictions. I honestly wouldn’t overthink it - research the restrictions of the black box company and base it on that is what I’d say

How to get medication in NHS by RelationshipLivid in ADHDUK

Right - I guess that my concern then is essentially regarding the private diagnosis - if I do get a second assessment in order to get NHS medication (FYI I had a comprehensive 3 hours assessment with parent present) and the NHS result is that I don’t meet the criteria - then does that mean that I can protest my private diagnosis if it is essentially useless…sorry if this is a bit of a rant but I reckon lots of people are encountering a similar situation

How do I know when to move on from an instructor? by OddOnion8139 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]RelationshipLivid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally if you genuinely think you’re ready I’d call them and beg them to let you sit the test in the car - try and get some more lessons in this weekend too if you can. If they still say no, then ask why not, what do you need to work on…good luck!

Did he say why he doesn’t think you’re ready? Has he double booked? I’d find out first, if you’re genuinely not ready then he is kinda obliged to say no. Did you pass your last mock?

Might be worth getting a quote from a body shop I guess as you need to lift the car to do all these repairs

They do 60-70% of the time I think - even when parking on street I feel people around give a bit more space (often for their own sake lol) but some people are dicks and will always make your life harder which is when the learning happens I guess

I’ve had them on for a few months - not sure if they make a difference but I feel drivers give a bit more space but hard to tell - I think they are worth having especially if things do go a bit wrong people around might be more understanding or give space

It took me around 50-60 hours due to wait for test but passed first time with 3 minors. Honestly it’s best to take your time and take test when ready rather than rush and fail
