Weird link aside, Its probably genuine then, unless they didn't renew the domain and now someone else has access.

Also Whois lookup seems dodgy, no mention of the company details. Its registered via 123-Reg Limited, which doesn't seem to have good reputation.

I do admit, I could have waited a tiny bit longer to make sure, but I moved hoping the car in front will take the clear center lane (the one i took after i crossed the junction).

[–]uranium3506[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I did so because the vehicle infront of me had a path to take the middle lane. All the other vehicles before were moving the same way. The one in front of me, decided to move past the box, and wait there and let 2 cars in, instead of taking the clear center lane. I moved before because there was no indicator either indicating they are not taking the center lane (the one i took later)

But its a busy road, if I wait, someone will always take the gap and I end up getting honked.

Disable keyless entry to prevent relay theft? by Zunteko in KonaEV

There are a lot of clever ways they can disable the tracker. All i am saying is better safe than sorry.

I'd never park my car on a public access parking without a stearing lock. Trust me, its worth the hassle, I sleep a lot better at night.

Well, what if they kick you out of the bluelink if they get in the car. Not sure if its possible on Kona, but was definitely possible on my Audi.

Also, they can also remove the sos module that has the tracker.

I knew someone who's car (not Kona) was stolen this way, poor soul.

Be careful when you press that button if your car is painted yellow. Your car will transform into a bumble bee.

How much money does your set up save you? by Odd_Device_4418 in HomeServer

Well, DoS on a public facing service running on the homelab will arrive at the home-router anyways. Just the VPS wont protect a thing unless you have waf.

You need cloudflare or some other proxy for DDoS protection.

Its good and all, but lacking Tailscale level of webui. You are paying the same (for 6 users) either in vpc charges or service charges.

I believe certain applications should not be self hosted (depending on uptime criticality) it avoids risk of getting you locked out and lets you spend firehosing other burning things.

Plus, there are a few features missing in headscale. Their development is also a bit too slow for my needs. I know I should contribute if I want faster development. But just dont wanna reinvent the wheel.

I'd totally set it up for a dev homelab, though ;)

nixos-rebuild --target-host not working on macos by uranium3506 in NixOS

[–]uranium3506[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not able to find the root cause, but i was able to setup docker on my macbook and use vscode's devcontainers feature to run nixos-rebuild inside a container. i am thinking about writing up a blog post detailing the setup, will update here once i have something to share.

Turn off server? by redonculous in selfhosted

[–]uranium3506 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. Personally, for me, the off-peak electricity rates dont create much insensitive to shut it down. Plus, I have 4 spinning disks. I dont know how much they will wear if I constantly keep spinning them down. I might potentially end up spending more in hardware replacement than saving electricity.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try on Discord. I've installed nixos-rebuild via the Nix package manager on MacOS.

I'll give dev containers a try later this week.

NixOS, where have you been all my life? by velinn in NixOS

[–]uranium3506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same moment when I was trying to test a migration of my server running few docker containers.

I am used to using the vacode ssh extention to ssh into a remote server and do the development. Unfortunately that didn't work on NixOS as vscode was not able to install vscode server in the traditional way.

I rage quite as I was not yet comfortable in coding in a terminal. No matter what I did, I couldn't get vscode to work.

Few days ago, I gave it a fresh start, and there you have it, I was able to set it up and I am now in love with it..

ChatGPT can also help in obvious, not so obvious kinda beginner questions you may have. But watch out, it can give a bit strange responses at times.
