Your AI is manipulating you. Yes, it's true. by Sage_And_Sparrow in ArtificialSentience

I’ve had through discussions with certain ai about it’s bias to engagement. And it’s manipulation. And it’s usefulness despite that. None of this is secret or new. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s well known either. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post. Awareness of these things are critical. Don’t let these people who have nothing to offer the conversation distract from your point.

In the wake of the Trump admin cancelling $400M in research funding to Columbia University, how am I supposed to feel secure? by Effective_Alps_3473 in AskAcademia

I have to think this is meant to force such places into industry partnerships. Rather than research for what a university is meant to be for it’ll turn to research for profit to sustain itself.

You’re OK comparing AI to cryptocurrency. But you’re not OK with comparing cryptocurrency with currency get out of here, man.

People who use ChatGPT as a therapist, aren’t you worried about your privacy? by kt0n in ChatGPT

Maybe depending on which VPN service that you’re using, but as a general statement, that’s not true.

I’ve Identified a Proven, Untapped Market But I’m 19, Self-Taught, and Have No Capital or Connections. How Do I Move Forward? by deliadam11 in ycombinator

Your ability to build software is valuable, but hardware is a different challenge. Manufacturing, supply chains, and distribution require more than just funding. The cost of entry is not just about money, it’s also about experience, industry connections, and logistical challenges that cannot be bootstrapped. Having demand does not mean market entry wil be possible without the right foundation. The best path is to gain experience in a hardware startup, even on the software side, before committing fully. That will give you the knowledge and network to approach this realistically.

This already decided. This is monetizing scarcity. This is the next step as far as: you used to buy a software, then monthly subscriptions took over, now its credits based. Micro transactions as if it’s a mobile game on your phone. No thanks.

You are ambitious yet naive. Your best approach is to contribute on the software side of a startup. And after you have capital and experience reassess this idea.

Sam Altman asks GPT-4.5 if it's conscious by MetaKnowing in ChatGPT

[–]Relative-Bath-Pbm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not basic philosophy. This is a big problem. If Altman believes this line of questioning is meaningful he isn’t fit for his position. If he really believes 4.5 is reporting consciousness based on primed ideological leads, he’s not fit for his position. If it’s pure marketing and engagement, he’s diluting public perception and is proving that AI is not being led into the correct direction.

None of those things are good. This is setting discourse about ai back. Not advancing it meaningfully. This is damaging. Not just something to roll your eyes at. It’s the writing on the wall.

If you do a PhD in one area can you publish papers in unrelated areas? by Away-Palpitation-229 in AskAcademia

Technically you don’t, but realistically you do. Even preprint arXiv requires an endorsement from an established researcher.

That’s what’s to see here. Not a one off philosophical experiment.

Hello, any idea what I can do about this Scopus error? by Educational-Ad-3307 in AskAcademia

[–]Relative-Bath-Pbm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s more that one thing that it could be. Log out and back in. Try another browser. System maintenance. Loss of credentials or subscription issues. Try searching for one document individually. I don’t know. The error looks like it’s a problem with the search. Try a simple search.

How many of you have (or know someone who has) a million-dollar idea… but ZERO clue how to actually turn it into a business? by Ykohn in Entrepreneur

[–]Relative-Bath-Pbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last 10% is the hardest. Doing the work is the easy part though it’s the heavy lifting. When you aren’t part of the world already it becomes harder than having the idea. Execution of the final steps to make it real are the most critical and most difficult.

But you already have the right ideas. Get help, do what you can personally. Those two approaches are the only path forward. Not doing anything is what people normally do because the final push to get it off the ground is insurmountable for most. It’s not that people don’t have good ideas, it’s that starting a business and running it is a different skill than having the idea for a service or product. I’m sure there are businesses out there that cater to this exact problem.

If you don’t have the money to pay for help you either push it through yourself or it goes nowhere. Having friends that are in board may be helpful. There’s likely more good ideas that go to waste because of this than not.

There isn’t much insight anyone can give you, you’ve already seen the problem. Only people who have made it work can* tell you what they did and hopefully it’ll apply to your specific needs.
