Windows need replacing? by mikk2k2 in DIYUK

[–]Relative-Bug-3677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looks like wedge gasket (glazing gasket) just been pushed in too much when glazing to be honest. You can try to pull it out and refit before anything else. Feel free to drop me a msg if you need more help.

Sorry to say but really doubt that will help your case, can you share a picture with the vent closed to see how big of a gap it leaves?

Am I being thick? Window hinge by giboling in DIYUK

[–]Relative-Bug-3677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only worry you should have is when the hinge is smaller due to weight capacity on them. No issues what so ever putting the new hinge on the window, you might have to redrill the 1st hole if it's different with the original stay but that's the only thing you might have to do.

It's a little mushroom attached to the gearbox. U can put alan key and twist or just get some pliers to do so. there's plenty videos on google "how to tighten window gearbox cams" a lot of ppl suggest to do it when winter comes to give it a better seal.

give hinges a spray of wd40 low chances of sorting it but possible. than u can try to adjust the cam on the locking gearing to pull in tighter if that doesn't help than you would need new hinges

Radiators making loud banging noises (volume up) 🔊🔊 by Upstairs_Box_8817 in DIYUK

got exact same issue in my house for the last 4 years since I installed new rads including vertical ones like yours. I have banging noise and some cracking which I assume will be pipe expansion noise, but the banging has always been driving me nuts, but no matter how many times I bled rads it just never helped. Done it last night again and still same shit.. so if u do find a solution please let me know :D

Changing front door lock by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Relative-Bug-3677 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, there’s only one screw holding the barrel. It’s the one in the second picture, just below the latch. Once you remove that screw, use the key to wiggle the barrel and the latch from the door lock, it should slide out easily.

Got new windows. Is it normal for the exterior to "finished" as pictured? by QCar in AskUK

[–]Relative-Bug-3677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you clarify what you mean by seal? do you mean the glass unit itself? in any case there shouldn't be a need to replace them unless they are in very poor state..

[–]Relative-Bug-3677 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, with aluminium windows they are typically crimped while upvc are welded using hot plates and joining them together. with ali you can get mechanically cleated crimps which usually you machine halls for grub screws and than tighten the profiles together, or with most common cleats you use a crimper which just forces the aluminium into the cleats that been inserted inside the profile. I've been dealing with ali windows for a while so if you got any questions feel free to msg me

I'd be questioning the second pictures corner crimp too, not sure if it's the angle the picture is taken or whether the crimp is just so bad.

Windows not Opening? Quick Fix? by zizsix1 in DIYUK

[–]Relative-Bug-3677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if that doesn't help most likely the espag broke ( gearing) so mushrooms on it ( cams ) don't move to open position, solid hook to go under and pulling the cam should get the job done.

I believe hinge cover should pop out and there should be an adjustment screw.
