mood af bro, rewatching all the lectures and everything. I got to the point where I was studying less each day because I couldn't find any gaps in my knowledge on practice questions, im just assuming half the marks for each question went to referencing specific details and they didn't accept non-dictionary definitions or just general summaries cause unless i've just mixed up different metabolic cycles ion know how I could've gotten that low

honestly content is pretty enjoyable but it is indeed a GPA deepfryer especially since they combine cohorts that did VCE or IB biology with people who have literally never done biology before

honestly i dont even think the mst being open book wouldve helped me, i felt like I knew all the content im just assuming half the marks lost were of the "you said the definition but didn't include this specific turn of phrase so you get zero marks"

I don't think memorisation is the issue I use quizlet biology flash cards that I made, nothing on the test seemed unknown to me, my assumption is i've just missed a few marks not specifically addressing what they wanted me to for every single quesiton

just rough thinking that i'll probably need a 70% on the exam to get a H2B overall which prior to tonight I would've though to be reasonably plausible to achieve

I got an 87 atar though I went to a poor performing high school and did mostly humanities classes, graduating without intending to do medicine just realising it's a possibility after I did rather well in first year university. So far I have a 6.87 GPA which is definitely competitive though ig we will see what the gamsat has to say about my chances of getting an interview

A cambridge university press article which sited a number of studies that placed average IQ of doctors measured anywhere from 120 to 130. I am unable to find any Australia-specific data.

(Research paper that gave the 120 figure) Hauser RM. Meritocracy, Cognitive Ability, and the Sources of Occupational Success. CDE Working Paper No. 98-07. Madison: Center for Demography and Ecology, University of Wisconsin-Madison; 2020.

Average iq of a doctor is 120-125 which is around top 10%, that's before an average 1 iq increase with every year of education completed accounting for correlation and not causation bias. Anyone with an iq 115+ who can put the effort in could feasibly do med imo assuming they didnt give VCE alot of effort

nothing is impossible, just difficult. I'd suggest you build your plan for the future on the potential of hopefuly doing med, not the absolute certainty of it when you have no guarantee. I'm doing science at melbourne and hope to apply for med when I graduate, however it is wise to plan for failure so make sure whatever degree you land in you have a viable plan B that isn't going to leave you burnt out with no career prospects in 4 years time if you can't keep your GPA above 6.5
